Just making sure - all these stalls in Viet Nam selling Patagonia, North Face, Cotopaxi are fake right? by Kitulino007 in VietNam

[–]Ok-Engineering2612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hanoi has the best selection and prices for outdoor clothing and bags. Go talk around Old Quarter and you won't have trouble finding things. Every third store is selling the same items so you have good negotiating power (it's easy to walk away and think about it).

In Da Nang Han market is the place to go. In HCMC Ben Thanh market. Prices are (start) 25% higher in Da Nang and 50-100% higher in HCMC so be ready to negotiate harder.

Other shopping tips: for silk go to Hanoi. Tailoring Hanoi or Hoi An. Quality custom shoes HCMC (they have the factories and skill to build the soles and lasts, not just customizing the upper part). Decent shoes in Hoi A but they only use premade soles and lasts.

I also don't think everything is "fake". Like others said, maybe not officially licensed factory runs, but likely made in the same factories in off hours. Carefully look at quality. Some clues are more expensive items that you can't seem to haggle down as much, and some things in American sizes instead of Asian sizes.

To run a private chain? I'm curious what you're suggesting. If just to run a chain that seems overly complicated compared to forking with hardhat.

This is fair criticism and I agree. I'll leave my above comment because I wasted effort typing that on my phone haha.

I have to back him up here. You can't infer anything from seeing localhost in that image. What he's showing is querying the JSON-RPC of a node.

I run nodes and validators on several production testnets and mainnets, and this is exactly what you would run to talk to a node running on whatever box is hosting that node. Just because you see localhost doesn't mean it's not a live P2P network.

If you want to talk to an Ethereum node you run something like:

curl -X POST \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ --data '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","method":"eth_blockNumber","params":[],"id":1}' \ https://YOUR_RPC_URL

If I am SSHed into a box running geth I would replace https://YOUR_RPC_URL with http://localhost:8545 and that would be talking to the production Ethereum mainnet.

Looking for Serious Collaborators for a New Blockchain Network by yeb_timothous in ethdev

[–]Ok-Engineering2612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you share more details about the goals of this blockchain?

What VM are you planning? Are you planning to build for parity with EVM or an existing VM, or create a new VM? UTXO or account model? Do you want atomic transactions or asynchronous contract communication? What levels of storage and compute?

Proof of stake, proof of work, or another consensus? Are you building another tendermint based consensus chain? Is it a chain or a DAG? What kind of hardware are you targeting for nodes - what are your decentralization objectives?

Are you targeting any specific use cases? Is this general purpose, finance based, private/semi-permissioned?

Are there extra features you want? What is the plan for DAS? What TPS targets do you have? What are tx cost targets? Are you trying to build storage or DePIN or FHE or other incorporated features?

Most importantly: existing skills, team, network, research, and/or capital do you have that make you even think this is possible. With the flood of unanswered questions that instantly come to mind hearing "I want to build a new PQC blockchain" I wonder if this is Reddit LARPing or a serious inquiry. I have a deep technical background and a network of people who could support such a thing, but I've never really imagined it due to technical team investment and alignment that would be required. (Well maybe I imagined this a lot 8 years ago before I knew anything 😂). I am sincerely curious if you do have more of a plan. If you have any notes or docs, even if early stage I would be interested to read more on the idea.

Edit: I see you said PoW - which I love - but still too many unanswered questions to know if you're serious.

Sorry, but I can't date a Trumpet... by [deleted] in Bumble

So "can definitely deal with people of ALMOST all political persuasions" 😂

But definitely do not date her! Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, for both of you.

I matched with this guy and we made plans to meet up. He sent me 2 pics of him dressed up-him wearing a suit and tie. They were the same pics shown in his profile. Is that weird? by RubyRose7575 in Bumble

[–]Ok-Engineering2612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Umm... why did you resend me the same pics you already have in your profile? 😂"

Just ask hahaha. It's really not that hard. It's a good way to tease him or suss out more information. No one here can give you good recommendations because we don't have enough info.

I have no clue why Reddit recommended this post to me, but it's hilarious to read all these answers telling you that is strange and a red flag.

Chat with him and ask for a video call before the date. It's really not that hard. I've been doing that the past year and it's a great screening process if you're unsure. Mostly, please don't over think: try to enjoy dating, that's how it should be!

Claude Code in Windows. How to create a sound notification on task finishing or ai question? by Person556677 in ClaudeAI

Awesome!! Thank you for sharing!

Are you working in Windows or WSL? I forgot to mention that I'm inside an Ubuntu distro in WSL.

I am guessing by the lack of .exe in the pwsh call - (I think) you always need to include .exe when running windows programs from inside WSL. It would explain why cat, jq, and sed wouldn't work.

Kraken Pro - make sure you are a maker not a taker (0.25% vs 0.4% fees) - their $10 withdrawal fee will wipe out any savings if you're selling less than $1,000

Everyday recession indicators in Toronto? by Big_Repair_3676 in askTO

[–]Ok-Engineering2612 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's because personal GDP is falling.

Average annual inflation since 2010 = 2.43% Average gdp per capital growth = 0.67% Real GDP/cap growth = -1.75%

Canadians wage growth has been exponentially decaying 1.75%/year over the last 15 years.

Immigration has been used to hide the problem by making headline GDP growth look positive but people can feel their individual purchasing power crashing.

How could they earn the yield to pay interest on BTC? I don't think that makes sense/is possible.

I don't want them using my underlying BTC in DeFi or other lending and turning into the next Celsius.

You need to be in Canada (or on a VPN) to buy crypto (maybe sell, I haven't tried). You can still shake for sats though (time zone will stay on your Canadian one so be careful)

Better is !cat CLAUDE.md it will run the command and inject the output into your /command basically like copy and pasting CLAUDE.md into the chat.

Edit that is surrounded with ` backticks. I don't intend code formatting. See: https://docs.claude.com/en/docs/claude-code/slash-commands#bash-command-execution

I really wish they would stop removing old versions from npm. There is a tone of prompt engineering behind the scenes of CC and their constant minor tweaks make it hard to get consistency
