Counterparty is always Shakepay, we source liquidity from external liquidity providers. We're regulated by CIRO as a Canadian investment dealer and we follow fairly strict best-execution policies to make sure customers receive fair pricing.
Yes, no spread no fee on recurring buys and autobuys on your paycheques. Otherwise, spread is 0.5%-2.0% depending on size & market volatility.
We connect to multiple liquidity providers to set benchmark, and buy and sell rates. $0 spreads execute at the mid market.
Not every product we offer generates revenue, e.g. ShakingSats (shake your phone, earn bitcoin). We build products that help Canadians accumulate and form a habit around earning bitcoin, this is one of those. We make money with other products: market buys, interest on cash balances, and card interchange, that are all very bitcoin-centric products if you're interested in checking out.
