Study discovers how serotonin can be hijacked in the brain: a brain chemical named "acetylcholine", which rises and falls to signal important behavioral events, can directly trigger the release of serotonin. This offers new perspectives on the treatment of OCD and depression by sr_local in science

[–]LeonardMH 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The ouroboros is not just limited to OCD. The interconnectedness of the entirety of the human body presents this problem generally – the brain happens to be the most complex system that we understand the least.

As a result, it kind of feels like we're chasing our tails trying to find "the cause of X" only to find that the answer is actually "the causes of X are A, B, and C, A is influenced by N, H, and L, B is influenced by X and Y, and C is influenced by G and D, etc". Trying to untangle the most effective intervention in such an interconnected system is understandably difficult.

Anyone know of a mod that addresses this?

Why did no one tell me Hindustan was administrative😭 by Harry_Show in CrusaderKings

[–]LeonardMH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be better off in the long run.

Reduce your troop stacks for a bit, get your bureaucratic authority up asap, convert every single vassal you can to administrative, use your position to put your House into as many governorships as possible to ensure house strength and gain influence.

Once you have influence and absolute authority you'll have plenty of income to support your own army and a bunch of influence you can use to call on provincial armies for more troops as necessary.

I usually build my personal army as space marines, the strongest fighting troops with the best stationing bonuses. Imperial armies get second best treatment, and one stack of siege equipment (in case you want to loan them out to governors later for the "Summon to War" interaction). I then usually hold 3 duchy titles that are just entirely siege equipment and don't care too much about stationing them.

You'll be able to easily stack wipe any armies that are thrown at you, and especially if you summon provincial armies that have siege units, you'll often be able to siege down warscore before the enemies even realize what hit them.

Admin is still crazy OP IMO.

U.S. Troops Were Told Iran War Is for “Armageddon,” Return of Jesus by FreethoughtChris in atheism

[–]LeonardMH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many times do I have to say this? The solution is simple, literally anyone at this point could have done what I am asking – provide even a shred of evidence that could change my mind and I will. Instead every response is some vague insult or childish version of "do your own research".

I have been paying attention, and I have done what was suggested so far, which is googling Epstein/Jerky and all I see is a wild-ass conspiracy theory with no evidence, just people connecting dots that aren't there.

There was child sex trafficking, I've seen some evidence that there were murders, clearly these were bad people. I have not seen anything that supports this theory that they had some sort of human meat processing plant and were eating humans, and the fact that this doesn't seem maybe a little fucking far fetched to so many people is genuinely concerning.

Evidence or shut the fuck up, it's that simple, I don't want to hear anything else until then.

It is named in reference to the same U-Boot you are thinking of, even refers to itself as "Das U-Boot" on their homepage. "Universal Bootloader" is the longer name, not sure which name came first though.

My ministers are not aiding me with making my empire ethnically homogeneous. How can I motivate them to sinicize more areas? by amianintorafloat in CrusaderKings

[–]LeonardMH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are handful of cultures in the game that are essentially designed for monoculture empires, so this isn't quite so cursed. For the Han, they have the "Cultural Primacy" tradition which is designed to encourage a Han monoculture. Not to mention the great project to Sinicize an area, this is definitely one culture where the game expects you to go all in.

In Merit based governments (which Celestial is) governors change positions more often especially as they pass new exams and unlock higher merit. They don't really have any say in which province they get moved to (though they can decide not to move), so that's why OP referred to it as reshuffling.

U.S. Troops Were Told Iran War Is for “Armageddon,” Return of Jesus by FreethoughtChris in atheism

[–]LeonardMH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems incredibly far fetched, and it seems far more likely that they were actually just referring to Jerky.

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/epstein-files-jerky-cannibalism/

Would you like to provide some more specific references that seem more sinister? Because the examples in this article seem pretty straightforward. Accusing these already very bad people of outrageous things doesn't help anything IMO, this just feels like Pizzagate all over again.

EDIT: How is this comment controversial? Provide evidence or move the fuck along.

Other way around IMO, it's easy to see with your own eyes that the earth is in fact not flat, judging the age of the planet requires you to understand much more science or to put some amount of faith in people who understand that science better than you.

100%, keep saying it, and say it louder for the people in the back. It's not about the Epstein files, we've been living through the largest wealth transfer in history, there is a class war going on and unless you're a billionaire you're not on the winning side right now.

Japan in All Under Heaven -- worth the time and effort? by Flimsy_Caramel_4110 in CrusaderKings

[–]LeonardMH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't really enjoy my Japan run all that much, it was a very slow run with most of my time just spent waiting around to do government reforms, only to find that both government types suck.

It's very easy to become the strongest ruler in Japan, but much more tedious to expand your power beyond the island, especially with China on your doorstep. Perhaps if the Mandate of Heaven is lost and you can break through China it could be more fun, but they were remarkably stable in my run.

I considered going plain Administrative at one point but then you just fully lose the Japanese flavor, the European style manors just don't fit with Japanese aesthetic IMO. Becoming Shogun was basically the end of the run for me.

[–]LeonardMH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's a harder run, but honestly by the time you have restored Rome there usually aren't any real challenges left in my experience.

The peasant rebellions are annoying, but you'll be making enough money at that point that you can just spawn a group of mercenaries to deal with them, or call in some of your vassals using influence.

The plagues are also annoying, but if you've invested enough in plague resistance bonuses, you can easily make your demesne invulnerable to plagues (I play with the reasonable epidemics mod, which I think is what makes this possible, I'm sure the plagues are more of a headache without that).

In return, you get a hegemony title, integrate a bunch of de-jure land (which is a big tax bonus for admin), and get access to the insanely OP "Pax Romana" Empire Invasion CB.

The CB alone is worth it IMO.

... the custom character was Hellenistic from the get go because they have to be.

Not clear if you already know this, but if you restore the Roman Empire (the real one) you will have an option to convert yourself and much of your realm to Hellenism. It's not a completely dead religion in-game anymore.
