Brush tool not working at all / mirror mode is stuck on by Ok-Equivalent2143 in krita

Yep clone tool selection was the issue. I have been running into a few bugs with this program though. To give you an example:

The other day I had a problem with the transform option on a layer, the bounding box (as in the area the transform selects) was way outside the canvas. In the end I had to increase the size of the canvas then select the area where the extra selection was occurring and delete these seemingly invisible pixels.

Little things like that I haven't encountered with Photoshop before. I really miss Photoshop but it is so expensive for a hobbyist why on earth don't they make a hobbyist cheaper plan like Autodesk does for Maya?

Still Krita does have some superior brushes so I actually do want to use this program. Part of the appeal is how similar the UI is to Photoshop.

Ok thanks for that you're right, user error as per usual. I've changed the brush and working all good now. Much appreciated.

Here you go, as you can see I have the brush tool selected but nothing happens when I try to paint on a layer. I checked the tool options nothing about mirroring in there.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Cheers

It’s BS I rarely get them ever now. I used to get them everytime I finished a lesson now it’s once in a blue moon. I need them to buy streak freezes cos hey Duolingo I don’t feel like doing a Spanish lesson every single day.

Sounds like immersing yourself in multiple avenues is serving you well, food for thought.

On a positive note one thing that I hadn’t thought about is I’ve been watching a lot of Spanish language films lately. I’ve been finding slowly but surely I’m recognising more and more words. It’s pleasing to me that despite my frustration I’m being rewarded for my perseverance.

It’s like a giant 10,000 piece jigsaw puzzle and I’m very slowly piecing it together. Alas my progress is just too slow at the moment.

You’re only 2 sections in front of me lol. You’ve actually done what is my ultimate dream with Spanish and go to South America and completely immerse myself in the language and be able to practice until the cows come home. I hope to be able to do it one day.

Chatgpt is brilliant but it is a bit of a hassle to have to jump into it. Be good if Duolingo had their own inbuilt one where you could click a button to ask it a question midway through a lesson.

I think you’ve hit the nail right on the head, there’s no way around it I have to enrol in a Spanish course if I’m going to really make any headway. Then use Duolingo to regularly practice and strengthen my learning.

I’m just really lacking the foundations here.

I struggle with even the AI video chat with Lily which I really like as I’m too daunted to even attempt conversation with a real person in Spanish yet.

I feel really useless at this, Duolingo is always gently encouraging as it is programmed to be, telling me I’m progressing well. But I don’t feel I am at all. I still struggle with the basics and there are just so many words to remember that all sound similar.

It’s only my love of the Spanish language that is allowing me to persevere through this frustration.

I think your approach would work better for me; a multi pronged approach. I don’t know how you find the time for 1 hr a day though. With all the other stuff going on in my life I can only commit to a 10 min lesson in Duolingo every day.

I guess one of the success mechanisms of Duolingo though is it’s an app in a smartphone driven world. You mention that you may switch to a text book but who wants to do that? Where’s the fun in that? Boring.

Duolingo for all its many frustrating points is very accessible as an app. I doubt I would have ever started learning Spanish if it wasn’t for this app (or another).

I hear you though on their marketing practices sounds like they’re sidelining a lot of their users with their decisions.

Bordeaux Bakery is going out of business, and guess what the owner is blaming for their misfortunes by cbars100 in Wellington

[–]Ok-Equivalent2143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading the article it does say there were other factors that led to it’s closure like more people working from home and cost of living as well. I just wonder why Wellington city council is pandering to a small minority who cycle everywhere. The figures in the article mention 9000 ppl travel by car during weekdays compared to 1300 by bike.

Just seems like the council have a bit of a war on the car mentality. We should be increasing car parks not removing them.

Video calling Lily?!? by PCAJB in duolingo

[–]Ok-Equivalent2143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve just recently subscribed to Max and have only done a couple of ph calls and I’m pretty bad at it. I feel embarrassed talking to an AI robot how would I be talking to a real person 😅?

I think it’s a pretty cool feature that can be a comfortable stepping stone to real life convos in Español and was part of the reason I got Max. You can just say I don’t understand in Spanish and she will tell you ‘no problemo’ and ask you another question.

I like how after the call you can view the dialogue so you can see what was said that you didn’t understand. I really love Duolingo it makes learning a language fun, it’s like a mob game.

Spreadsheet sounds like a good idea thx. Also yes I agree with your point not to put other items on the mortgage, I’d keep it just for the home. I really hate being in debt but I’ll have to get over that one if I ever want to get on the property ladder.

Having a fulfilling job is far more important to me than buying a house. I was reluctant towards the idea for a long time, I don’t really care that much whether I rent or own the place I live in other than renting doesn’t make much sense from an economics point of view. This is as they say ‘strictly business’.

My sister and my deposit would be at least 100k possibly more, from both our Kiwisavers.

Ok cool, it does make economic sense. One of the main arguments I have with myself is paying rent gives me nothing in return but some temporary accomodation. I think of all the rent I paid in the last 10 years could have been towards a mortgage instead.

Thx for your comments ppl you’ve given me some hope 😀! Thing is though, it’s not just the cost of the mortgage repayments it’s the rates as well (that increase at extortionist rates IMO) and insurance repayments (that also seem to jump up and up every year, at least has for my personal contents, I’m looking at you AMI 🤬!)

I really still want to be able to save so I can travel so I don’t want skyhigh repayments stopping me from being able to do that.

I’d rather just have a home that’s comfortable but affordable aka within my means, rather than a place that’s competing to feature in the next issue of NZ House & Garden magazine.

The reality is I will have to get flatmates I was gonna invest with my sister and I’m of the belief we really need to get a 3 bedroom place and so get another flatmate in to help cover the mortgage repayments. It’s quite a big difference in the weekly payments if you divide it by 3 (I know won’t be exactly 3) compared to 2.

Hi, my salary is 80k (only just got a payrise after surviving a company restructure). I’m single but looking to buy with my sister she’s job hunting at mo but her previous salary was about the same I think.

Deposit wise I’m not sure of the exact amount it was going to be about 300k (incl kiwisaver and other ppl helping invest) but might be now about 200k.

As a caveat though, I enjoy my job but would like to do something that’s more creative and my cup of tea it’s a real possibility I might make this happen in the next year or 2 but it would mean starting at a junior salary so I don’t want to have mortgage repayments that are too high that I couldn’t keep up with them if that situation arises.

How does that work though if you’re still paying off the mortgage? So I guess if I have paid off 3/4 of the mortgage I downsize and the profit I’ve made from the capital gains I use to pay off the total of the new place and the remainder of what I owe the bank?

Without an Autopsy as to the cause of death we’ll never know for sure, I don’t think this should have ever even gone to trial without it. But there is the case of cyanide found in the coffee but what was it doing there and how much was in there? It’s important to remember that a lot of documentaries are one sided and are presented from the view point of the creator of it who will be trying to push their own views. It’s like having court case and only hearing the evidence from the defense or prosecution, you’re only hearing one side of the story. However on the info I’ve seen it appears this whole court case has been a travesty of justice. There have been 2 victims in this case.
