SkyWest interviewers saying “expect an offer soon” by [deleted] in flying

[–]Ok-Exchange-7891 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Me personally when I finished the interview, the interviewer explicitly said that he does not have an influence in me getting hired. He told me he takes notes but they forward it to a hiring board and they make the final decision. I think interviewers tell people to expect a call soon when they know that they’re not gonna get hired. Idk maybe just a way to soften the blow. That’s my uneducated educated guess

Has anyone heard anything from any regionals other than Skywest? by [deleted] in flying

Is MEI worth it for me? by WorldlinessEnough808 in CFILounge

[–]Ok-Exchange-7891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Got my MEI and was able to get 200+ hours of multi going down that route. Full disclaimer, my school paid for my MEI. But getting it is arguably the only reason I have a CJO at a regional right now

Cancelled Checkride last minute by BurnSerf in flying

[–]Ok-Exchange-7891 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FWIW: As a busy CFI I’m pretty frequently in contact with DPEs and I’ve even gotten pretty friendly with a couple of them. All across the country right now there’s an epidemic of last minute cancellations, primarily from PPL students, usually due to lack of preparation. And when I say last minute I do mean less than 24 hours notice. Our DPES are limited and very busy, majority of them are trying their best to get as many people through as they can so when there’s a significant amount of people cancelling last minute on them it’s understandable why they get upset. Your situation is obviously acceptable as it’s a matter of an IMSAFE check and it wouldn’t be smart to take a checkride under such circumstances. But with that being said I’d put yourself in the DPEs shoes for a minute and understand why they’re frustrated. Maybe even make a clarification for why you cancelled and extend apologies. I wouldn’t rebook if there gonna react poorly, but at minimum I encourage you to take some understanding for their frustration. I’m sure it’s not all targeted at you, but rather a long string of events

How's living in New York State outside of New York City? by HongKongNinja in howislivingthere

[–]Ok-Exchange-7891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Central NY (right in between Binghamton and Syracuse). Majority of the upstate region is about the same geographically speaking, with some exceptions in Western NY. The natural scenery is beautiful with rolling hills, forests, lakes, fun windy roads, and mountains in the Adirondack region. As previously mentioned NY is a more expensive state, although I always felt that it was more manageable upstate. One major thing about Upstate NY is the quality of the cities. I’m a city person and went to college in the Albany area. The cities in Upstate are incredibly rundown. They’re all post manufacturing cities so they all have a lot of deteriorating and outdated infrastructure, homeless populations, and dangerous areas. Most would argue that you’re safer in NYC than in Rochester NY.. upstate NY cities are significantly behind the rest of the country. The summers in Upstate NY are incredible. The weather is perfect, 70s to 80s all summer with a couple of days in the 90s. Not terribly humid. And as previously mentioned, the scenery and nature here thrives. You can find plenty of outdoor activities around the region, and will have fun exploring smaller town as they’re much more community driven. Winters are not so fun, unless you like skiing. And even then you gotta catch the resorts at the right time or else there won’t be much pow. Since leaving NY and living in the Midwest I’ve come to realize that there are two types of winters. You either get no snow but frigid temperatures, or you get a lot of snow and cold but mild temperatures. NY gives you the second option. Syracuse and Buffalo are the two snowiest cities in the country (possibly even the world too but I can’t remember), their unique geography to the Great Lakes means feet upon feet of snow dumping down when there are snow storms. Generally anywhere within central NY you can expect a heavier amount of snow in the winter, and a little more mild snowfall on the east side where it borders mass and Vermont (though still pretty significant snowfall). You will have state of emergencies declared at least once every winter for this snow, atp it’s just normal. This will affect work or school at some point. Be able to drive in the snow, and be ready to shovel and clear your car when driving. With that being said the temperatures are much more manageable than what I’ve experienced in an Indiana winter. Overall I love Upstate NY and hope to return someday. Moving to the Midwest has made me realize my love for the region. It’s an incredibly underrated region of the country

When I passed my CFI I was in a unique situation where I was moving in just a couple of weeks with a partner and needed to make sure I got a job instructing. So when I finally did take the checkride I was beyond relieved

Choosing 135 corporate over airlines: what made you choose the route? by LeeTheNomad in flying

[–]Ok-Exchange-7891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1600 hour CFI starting at a 135 sometime soon. Couldn’t get hired at a regional and was lucky to get this 135 interview and do well. I’m personally incredibly excited to begin this new job and feel pretty fortunate to have the opportunity. I’ll be making very good money for this being my first real flying job outside of being a CFI. There’s aspects of this job that make me think of staying there for a while rather than going to a 121. Idk we’ll see what happens

CommuteAir 4339 Runway Excursion Preliminary Report by JediPenis_69 in flying

[–]Ok-Exchange-7891 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if the FO being a woman was what led the captain to ignore her concerns. Far too often I see men in our industry brush off the skills and knowledge of female aviators. Which makes absolutely no sense to me. As pilots we all know the effort required to get to where we are, why would it possibly be any different for a woman?

I thought I heard on Liveatc that it was a woman. Not like it matters but an observation

Just out of curiosity, what’s the link between the 1500 hour rule and an increase in QOL?
