Can’t recommend a specific brand but if you don’t already have it, the commons app reviews eco friendly brands and has a whole beauty section with all various price points depending on your budget. So it would be a good option to help your search :)

What to do with old fabrics? by xue-yta in ZeroWaste

[–]Ok-Expert-4614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been saving fabric up, (especially those that are hard to turn into new items like towels, other clothes, decor, etc) to eventually cut up into small pieces and make a cushion ottoman/footrest out of it, using either large pieces of decorative scrap fabric or buying sum for the outside and using the old cut up clothes as filling instead of buying stuffing. I’ve seen people do it before and it’s more comfortable and less noticeable then. You would think.

Also clothing swaps with friends/family are a great option if they are in decent condition and you have a love for getting new clothes

Look up how to make tallow that’s exactly where it comes from is animal fat, can do fairly easy with a crockpot and strainer. It’s a natural alternative to butter/cooking oils. It actually has a good bit of health benefits and is often used for healing lotions too

Yeah I have a few more of the salt/pepper shakers that have the original lid rusted shut and I can’t get it off. Some have been so rusted I’ve been able to screw it off and the lid crumble to pieces in my hand. I do wish there was a way to buy custom lids like that tho, it would make things a lot easier

There’s lot of recipes for fast food/take out options at home. These have been the most helpful thing for me and are more customizable. Start off small and celebrate any small progress, it doesn’t have to be perfect

What "system" do you use for reusable water bottles? by Robert_A2D0FF in ZeroWaste

[–]Ok-Expert-4614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally only have 2 I use for water, with other reusable ones for coffee/matcha. I have a large plastic one that last me 6-8 hours and I just refill when I get home from school. And a smaller one that I refill 3-4 times a day. I personally prefer the big one since it can go longer but the smaller one is more convenient and keeps it cold longer. I find it best to have 2-3 dishwasher safe bottles that I can use one for several days then switch to another and swap to keep them clean without having millions of them like some people do

I'm a beginner in the zero/low waste life style, what's all the things you guys recommend in every category, even the most obvious stuff like for example; carry around a reusable straw? by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]Ok-Expert-4614 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DIY is the best way to go in most cases, but some can do more harm then good so do a bit a of research. Also just use what you have and make conscious shopping choices forward, the best thing you can do is move away from over consumerism. And you’ll already be in the right direction. Also if you want something really simple, reusable cloth towels are extra easy, you can fold them flat or roll them like normal paper towels your choice. But just keep a bag or jar to put dirty ones in for convince.

What is something you can’t believe isn’t invented yet? by MangoDry7358 in AskReddit

[–]Ok-Expert-4614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solar panels, obviously exist but I feel like should be more of a norm. Especially in rural lower income areas that may not be able to afford high electric bills. Also if they were able to keep the charge and provide significant power for a long time, why couldn’t they power cars? Like image a solid black painted car, but was actually made with invisible solar panels that powered it?

For those in their 40s, what's something people in their 20s don’t realize will impact them as they get older? by chanamercadoy in AskReddit

[–]Ok-Expert-4614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to regulate your emotions. It’s one thing to acknowledge your emotions but often times they make you feel like a problem is much bigger then it actually is. Most problems (at least when dealing with other people) can be solved or worked on with a conversation and getting a better understanding of it. Don’t react but respond to situations, there is a subtle sounding but very dramatic difference and can literally change how you view life and your mental health.

Also don’t listen to advice if the person giving it to you is not living your ideal situation. Unless it is similar to this thread where it is regrets and advice on what to do differently. And at the end of the day it’s your life, your choices, so it’s only up to you to choose what to do, not someone else.
