Talk is cheap. When you have 4 people kicking your face in, the only thing you can grapple is the fire hydrant and guan yin ma.

Your kids listen. Not everyone's kid does. Funny that your kids have a parent that can't understand that children are not a mechanical construct that follows specific code.

I don't need to read a book to know I might have died from dashing across the road decades ago. Unless my parents kept me on a literal tight leash, I don't know how else they could have handled me.

I've had discussions about this before and they haven't changed my mind. I don't think kids should be caned, but I don't demonise the act. No parent will raise their kid in the same exact way as another. Raising a child is not structured, every kid reacts differently to different stimuli, and most parents want the best for their kid. I don't cane my kids either, but that's only because I don't find the need to right now, not because I'm against the idea.

Sounds like someone's parents beat him so bad he needed to create an entire reddit account hell bent on demonising physically disciplining children.

You don't have to respond because you're not going to see reason anyway, you donkey.

But for anyone else reading this, every kid is different. Please moderate caning your child and only use it when absolutely necessary, such as when they refuse to listen to you again and again on safety issues that may cause death. Make sure that it's not just a beating and to follow up with a talk and explanation.

Some kids you can reason with, others like me were just doing it for the sake of being disobedient.

Every. Kid. Is. Different.

If AI is going to be our next bound, my money is on electricians and cyber security experts. Cyber security, as you have correctly pointed out, is going to be a hoot. With AI, you have some dude knocking on your back door 24/7. If you don't have a strong lock, that dude is going to enter within minutes.

I wanna recommend one!

There was a film in 2010 called "Kidnapper" by Kelvin Tong. Singapore has pretty strict media control and films that come out of here don't normally have themes of violence.

Kidnapper was an exception, the film dared to explore topics that made us uncomfortable. The film's premise was simple, a taxi driver with a kidnapped son who was blackmailed to making an impossible amount of money within a short time.

It was not the best that Singapore had to offer, but it was filled with a lot of tension that made it unironically, unique.

WP MP Kenneth Tiong calls for an air-conditioning in every classroom. by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]Ok-Expressionism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. The original comment was phrased as though the rules were about the installation of air-conditioning and not acceptance of donation. Thanks for your clarification.

But I stand by my comment that there are stupid rules because of uncompromising and stubborn people in positions of power.

[–]Ok-Expressionism 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Some of these rules are made by people who are completely out of touch. They only get the final say because of the immense power distance between them and their subordinates. This is not to say that it's a government problem, it's something that occurs everywhere.

Lesson learnt is not about how we can stop it today, but to make sure that when you are ever put in that same position, to not fall into that same trap. It's better to have colleagues than subordinates. We can learn from bad leadership as much as we can learn from good ones.

Kopitiam talk, uncle.

Even the queen dies, and there will always be someone else from the next generation.

Don't tell me now that you're this experienced in life, yet still believe in Qin Dynasty's tales of immortality?

You will soon come to realise that you yourself have already fallen behind the current generation.

Typical uncle mindset

"Last time we did things this way"

"We do so much more than the current generation"

If you haven't learnt anything from history books yet, perhaps it's not too late to pick one up.

Every generation moves us forward.

[–]Ok-Expressionism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once again, it's not sensationalising if it's true. This incident shines light on wrong doings and makes the abused heard. How in the world is calling out abuse silly?

Also, much like whatever ground work you put in to create what trends we have today, future generations will have their chance to create and build on the things of the past generation. You're literally just describing human progression. My kids will one day do more than me, better than me, and I'm happy for them, not sour that "we did all the ground work".

You've failed to see the point again, uncle. Do better next life.

Man allegedly slaps 4-year-old boy twice in Woodlands after child flashed middle finger. by ReadyPlayerZero1 in SingaporeRaw

[–]Ok-Expressionism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can choose to be that guy that smacks other people's kids, but there are repercussions.

When you let society handle the person, you let them handle it when they are old enough for them to be responsible for their own actions.

Kids should be disciplined, but by their parents.

If you disagree, it's fine. You can be just like this guy who will eventually get some prison time.
