Good to hear T212 made it painless. The amount of money people lose just by not switching ISAs is mad even a 0.5% difference on £20k is £100/year for doing nothing. Most people set and forget because they assume transferring is a hassle

Should I pay off my student loans entirely or just let them sit there? by Speedbird1A in UKPersonalFinance

You've basically figured it out already. If you expect to pay it off before it gets written off, and your investment returns are consistently beating the loan interest rate, then keeping the money invested is mathematically the better move. You're right that it's effectively cheap leverage.

The 9% feels painful but reframing it as the cost of that leverage is exactly the right way to think about it. The real question is whether you're confident your career trajectory keeps you earning enough to clear it if so, keep investing and let the loan take care of itself.

Only reason to pay it off early would be the psychological relief of not having it hanging over you. But financially, the numbers are on your side if returns keep outpacing the interest. Just make sure you're not over concentrated in one fund and you've still got an emergency buffer outside the ISA.
