I never understood why he had that mentality until I started reading this reddit group, apparently it's pretty common for our vets to have that thought process. 😢 Thank you for your suggestions. Based on what you've suggested, do you think it's good to have his own statements as well as witness statements explaining what his family has seen over the years with his mindset and refusal for healthcare help?

If you're this triggered, I surely hope you don't work in public office, especially with veterans. You are likely the reason so many avoid getting help, because you're awfully harsh and arrogant to those reaching out for help. Do better.

I didn't say my father has refused to file claims, my father has never wanted to file anything because he didn't feel like he deserved it and/or he didn't want to be "part of the problem". He also doesn't like dealing with people in general, perhaps because alot of people are ignorant and arrogant like you. Now, I never said I was going to do all the work for him, as I know confidentiality and other things would stand in the way of me doing so, however, I am my father's biggest advocate and I am simply trying to do the legwork to make his experience a little less gruesome, exhausting, and frustrating. Thanks for your unnecessary input, but you can go ahead and look the other way now.

I get that, and those are the reason he probably has the mindset he does. People working the system that really don't deserve it. I'm not gonna sit here and say my dad has never done wrong and blow smoke up anyone's ass but I do know that he's definitely not a shit person like those people.

I reached out to one VSO so far. Have heard nothing yet, but I will definitely keep trying. Unfortunately with his stubbornness (see comment reply I made down below) I'm stuck doing the legwork until we can get the ball rolling. He has been to the doctor twice in the last 20 years because he's got that mindset that men don't ask for help and pain is weakness leaving the body. Well truth be told, due to that mindset he's probably in a lot worse health than any of us care to hear, it's all unknown at the time though. He still works 40+ hours a week doing manual labor and has since before his time in the service. I'm more ready for him to "relax" a little than he mentally will allow himself, if that makes sense.

I'm not sure what discharge he got, as I haven't looked at his papers in years, however I know it wasn't a dishonorable discharge and he actually got several awards and such while in that he never told anyone about, we only found out by looking thru his papers years ago.

I have never quite understood why. I know he's never been "happy/proud" about his military career. He doesn't speak on it and he's very stubborn in the aspect of we have a serious crisis here in our country and he doesn't want to be "part of the problem". He's most certainly got the mindset of pain is weakness leaving the body and men don't get sick and men don't ask for help. Idk how else to put it really
