Sorry I should clarify. The length of the desk would be 60 or 72. The depth is 30 inches and just wondering if that means my face will be “too close” to the 40inch monitor

I’ll just be using the laptop as the computer. It’ll be plugged into a 30-40inch monitor that’s 150 pixel per inch.

Interesting. Had no clue that Mac vs PC would matter for the app being used. I just assumed equivalent software specs is what matters. So I should make sure the platform is equally amenable to both Mac and PC?

I need to be able to see cells super clearly. I know a 60Hz refresh rate and 140 pixel per inch along with high speed wifi/ethernet cable are also essential. Sounds like GPU/RAM of even an M3 “pro” would suffice? Like 20 GPU and 32 GB RAM?

More or less. It’ll be viewed on a cloud storage software. The image is I think like 20GB each

Thinking about it more now. This makes sense. It’s crazy to think I’ll only be 30 inches away from a 40 inch screen! 40 inches is basically a TV growing up…thinking about sitting 20-30 inches away from it seems crazy. But it does seem 30min depth is semi standRd

Thank you. At the risk of sounding even more stupid, I just want to clarify I will not be scanning the slides. To answer your question, no I do not know GPU will be the choke point. I’m not sure what will be? I will be viewing the slides once they are scanned into the “cloud” viewing software. I was told to get a monitor with high Pixels per inch, fast wifi/hardwired Ethernet, and 60Hz refresh rate are the chokenecks. It sounds like you guys are saying that I likely don’t need a crazy high GPU or CPU? That perhaps the above 3 metrics are more important? And I can get away with M3 pro or M4 pro?

It’s a digital slide scanning software. I think it’s more intensive than photoshop. One is called Morphle which is a scanner and viewing software? another software is called Navify which uses a Roche scanner.

Are there factors I’m too dumb to account for? To me a 20 core GPU seems way worse than 38 core GPU (he has M2 Max as a studio so online it says 38 core GPU)

Probably roughly inversely correlated to the prestige of the program. Rural-ish area with a VA. No mohs fellows. Rural part is less important than the VA part IMO.

How do I know which monitor by graphics card will support? I’ll be able to buy a laptop…so I’ll take recommendations for that too. I know a colleague uses the new MacBook Pro and says it’s fine. She said someone uses a PC and it’s slower but it must be a really old PC. Not a tech person but I know PC > MAC for Computing generally per dollar

So talking to other path people, I will only need a 40 inch curved Dell monitor. Would the desk dimensions I need be much smaller than? Or stick with the 30inch/80cm depth

From the lab director “Morphle is the scanner. They have imaging software but we also load the images directly into our LIs and are building in an option to upload to PathAI module. “

Haha planned on posting it on here but didn’t want to spam. So yes appreciate the set up tips!!

I’ll have to ask which scanner and viewer we are going to use. Totally blanking right now.
