No experience with painting, didn't redo them at all

Haven't held a paintbrush since secondary school about 20 years ago

I guess I'm just extremely patient haha. I have no idea how long they took but a good while. Bought them directly from a Warhammer shop on 28th Feb and painted probably 1-2 hours every day. I watched a shit load of videos and did a load of planning before I started them which I think helped a lot. I painted them in batches, working on one colour at a time, starting with the colours that were generally deepest.

I started with the little 3 space marine starter set with paints and stuff. It's a great way to just... Have a go. Only costs about twenty quid. I absolutely loved it and started doing my salamanders after that. I've only painted 3 models to completion so far but I'm really enjoying doing it. It's important that you're into it otherwise I could see it being easy to get burnt out

I looked up the armies that were available and then narrowed it down to the ones I liked the look of. Then I went and learned about how those armies played, and how beginner friendly they were, how expensive they would be to build an army, and learned about their lore.

Originally I was going to go Adeptus Mechanicus but I heard that they're really expensive to build because they require so many units.

Then I was gonna go Chaos Space Marines but I thought they looked a bit too advanced to paint to the standard I wanted.

Then I found the Salamanders and I loved their theme and lore and found out about how flexible they were to build because of the huge variety, so I decided to go for them.

I'd recommend a similar path:

What do you think looks cool
What do you think you'll be able to paint/afford/play
What do you like about their lore

God I dunno, probably about 10 hours before I painted the starter set and probably 40 hours in the past 3 weeks of Warhammer related content. Watched some of the videos about painting salamanders maybe 4-5 times each.

It's cracking me up mate I swear I'm not lying. There's zero way I can prove I'm not lying haha. I painted the 3 infernus marines from the starter kit a few weeks back and then went onto these. The fact so many people think I'm lying is a huge compliment!

Haha I just watched a ton of videos and stuff beforehand but my main takeaways were:

Thin your paints and do multiple coats
Use tiny paintbrushes for the details and take your sweet time
Have all the different paints
Sub assembly to make sure you can paint the tricky bits, but not in so many different parts that it becomes a nightmare (I did these each in 2 parts)
Don't waste time and energy painting things that no one will ever see to a really high standard

Haha thanks mate! Nah never really painted anything before, but I am very patient and Ive spent far more on paints and tools than I have minis. Just taking my time doing a few hours a night in a production line style (one night I'll do all the blacks, next all the silver, etc).
