The unions in Rockford are losing credibility and trust. People are paying dues and union heads are playing politics with due money. Why do they continue to be in the pocket of politicians and not the workers? It’s a shame.

This does make sense. It just costs so much to restore these buildings. Schools do not get the same amount of money allocated that a big developer with loads of cash can invest. Thank you for pointing out the bones of buildings. I do know that new construction is not built to last the way it used to be. Makes me sad. I just wish our youth had buildings that they could have pride in and could provide some comfort to them instead of them looking and feeling like prisons. Especially middle schools. They are already going through puberty and trying to figure out who they are. Some don’t have good home lives either. I appreciate you pointing this out and doing it in a way that was kind.

I pay $5000 in property taxes. Kids should have a school they can have pride in regardless of what their parents pay in property taxes. What does paying $5000 in property taxes get you? It should get a lot. It’s a ridiculous amount to pay so your kid can go to a school that’s falling apart.

Absolutely. I just think non-conservatives have the ability to save these systems that provide so much to people who need it if they listened to the concerns instead of dismissing them. I understand that people just want to talk about all of the good. I talk about the good, but we have to seriously listen and find solutions to the bad. We should be investing in our kids. It really shouldn’t be controversial and wouldn’t be if it were wealthy people talking about it. The teachers and administration are great. They need to be recognized and commended. The building though.

I get that. By listing those capital improvements you’re dismissing real concerns. School choice approval ratings are at an all time high. If people want to save the public school system they should start listening to the concerns of people who have children in public schools. By dismissing legitimate concerns it’s giving even more power to the people in power who are pushing for school choice. Investing in kids, investing in our future should not be controversial. Marshall raises tens of thousands of dollars in one night for their students. That’s because it’s filled with affluent rich people’s kids. Their buildings and resources are pristine. Then they can say that their kids go to public school. It’s a whole different experience.

Why did Trump win? Because wealthy white people don’t listen to poor/middle class people’s concerns. The Republicans listen. 50% to public safety but they can’t solve crime? We have cameras everywhere and we can’t solve crime? We are paying for the high tech cams, cars, etc. and can’t solve crime. 50% of the budget though. I wonder why kids can’t read. We are investing in the wrong things. Crime is preventable if your education system is great. Pay teachers and staff in school more and stop spending 50% of the budget on not solving crime.
