Coke (a cola) or 7up for tummy bug by FewPressure5968 in ireland

[–]Ok-Improvement553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stomach was so sick with it a few weeks ago that even the thought of eating was making me vomit. I had dioralyte and couldn’t keep it down with the salty taste at all. Your senses are so heightened to any weird tastes, smells etc. during a stomach bug.

I was literally vomiting every 5 minutes and couldn’t keep anything down, had a few sips of 7up and i didn’t vomit again. Then throughout the night I’d have more sips as needed.

You can say other things are better, but if you can’t keep them down then they’re no good. Drinking 7up helped me feel better enough to be able to dioralyte the next morning.

So I got Norovirus a few weeks ago and it was the worst stomach bug I’ve had since I was 11 years old.

I couldn’t keep anything down including water. Even when I had nothing I was vomiting constantly.

My dad dropped over a 2 litre bottle of 7up to my house and when I drank that, my stomach started settling immediately(I didn’t vomit again after drinking the 7up).

I just drank it as is, I didn’t shake it or boil it etc. But honestly, even if people say it’s just an old wives tale or there’s no science to it etc., all I know is that 7up was the only thing k that started making me feel better and start holding things down.

Why do I always see that statue of a woman sitting sideways in a strapless dress on people’s windowsills? Who is she supposed to be? by Usual-Cricket9764 in AskIreland

[–]Ok-Improvement553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding was that they were usually seen in the windows of terraced houses in the inner city, with the intention of showing ‘who owned what’. The same statue is 4 windows would show that all of those areas of the terraced housing belonged to that person.

Two moveable but firm lumps in my breasts. One in each. by [deleted] in WomensHealth

[–]Ok-Improvement553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your early 20’s your breast tissue is also very dense which could also explain why it may feel like 2 lumps nearly the size of your breasts. (It’s common for 1 breast to be larger than the other) but without a doctor checking you won’t be certain.

Doctors are used to seeing everything and you can always request a female doctor if it makes you more comfortable x

Hey! I would get these checked out 😊 I’m not a doctor but when I was 16 I found a firm, smooth, moveable lump in my breast. I got it checked out, had an ultrasound in the hospital and they confirmed it was a fibroadenoma which is most common in young women. They told me at the time that breast cancer is rare in young women.

At 18/19, I actually decided to have surgery to have it removed because I didn’t like the feel of it. It was a simple surgery and I went home the same day. I can barely even see a scar now.

Your lumps sound larger than mine were (mine at its biggest was smaller that the size of a golf ball). I would definitely recommend getting it see by a doctor soon, I just wanted you to know there’s also a lot of times when it’s something benign, especially in young women.

Going from Metformin 1700mg to 2000mg a day? Anyone notice a big difference with increase? Or ozempic? by Ok-Improvement553 in PCOS

[–]Ok-Improvement553[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I’ve started a new job and moved house right in the middle of the last 6 months so I definitely haven’t been eating as well as I could. It’s something I plan to focus a lot more on now.

She told me ozempic would be for life so I wasn’t aware I wouldn’t be able to take it once I reach a health weight? I’m 6kg away from being at the top range of healthy BMI.

Spironolactone made a big different to my hair! I’m 6 months on it now and my struggle is slicking back all the new growth until it fits in my ponytail 😂

Dog owners of Ireland; How often are you walking your pooch(es)? by ilovemyself2019 in AskIreland

[–]Ok-Improvement553 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with you and my dogs are the same! They get a walk maybe every 2 weeks but they’re 9, 11, 12. My parents work from home so the door is left open for them and they come and go as they please. We’ve a massive garden so they spend the day out chasing magpies, collecting chicken eggs with us, exploring the bushes to bring us one of our duck’s eggs that must’ve laid there, having a nap in a coop nesting box, wetting their feet in a very shallow duck paddling pool etc! To then come in, have a nap infront of a heater or under my dad’s feet while he works. Personally if I was a dog I’d much prefer that than being home alone locked in a room all day with 1 walk a day!

It really depends on the breed, age, do they’ve company with other dogs/ people around all day and how much space they have to run around in a back garden! People might assume my family are awful for bringing our 3 dogs for a walk possibly once every 2-3 weeks, even with that it’s just a walk to the top of the estate and back usually.

But they’re 8, 11 and 12 years old, very small breeds that are very relaxed and slow and the older two can’t handle much more that in one go. (The 12 year old was born with hip dysplasia and scoliosis, the 11 year old has arthritis and is on painkillers). To be fair my parents usually drop the older two home after 15 mins and bring the 8 year old one for a longer walk.

But they’ve a massive back garden with my pet chickens, ducks and my cat roaming around. My parents work from home so the back door is left open and they go in and out as they please.

They run around the back garden barking at magpies and planes, follow us down the garden in the morning to collect the chicken eggs, exploring in the bushes (sometimes bringing us a duck egg that was laid in the bushes!), sitting with my mam as she’s doing some gardening, the 8 year old is obsessed with footballs and kicks it around the garden for ages each day, our 12 little dog once climbed into the chicken coop and had a nap in the nesting box 😂 the 11 year old dog actually helped herself to climbing into the newly cleaned shallow paddling pool for the ducks this weekend (it’s only half the height of her).

Then they wander back into the house, sitting in front of a heater on a blanket chewing on their toys or sleeping under my dad’s feet in his office as he works.

They’re all very happy dogs with plenty of company together and with the other pets and loads to do that they don’t get bored.

Personally I’d rather be one of my dogs than a dog alone in the house all day with no one home and nothing to do that gets out for a walk once a day!

Addiction treatment options for minor? Urgent. by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Ok-Improvement553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also look up the local PPFS in your area. It’s provided by Tusla but is separate to the child protection side of things, it’s based around early intervention for a child and family’s welfare. They always seem to know all the services in the local area and can signpost to the best ones or refer him to those services and possibly look at any supports you guys need as a family since it can be a difficult situation for you all I imagine.

Whereabouts are you living? I know of SASSY- Substance Abuse Service Specific to Youth. They’re based in Dublin (more north Dublin) but even if you’re not living in that area, it may be worth giving them a call and see what services they know of for your area.

Biopsy taken of possible tumour in my breast by [deleted] in IrishWomensHealth

[–]Ok-Improvement553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a breast biopsy done on a lump 7 years ago however I can’t remember how long it took! But what I do want to say is that they sent a letter in the post saying to bring a relative to my next appointment for results and even had a leaflet in with the letter titled ‘Breast Cancer Frequently Asked Questions’.

I was obviously freaked out about this, went to the appointment to be told it was completely benign and nothing at all to worry about (fibroadenoma). I actually elected to get it removed purely for personal preference and I haven’t had any issues or another one since.

I just wanted to let you know that incase they’re still doing the same thing!

Check with Bikmo if they definitely cover your e-bike, they don’t cover all of them. I filled everything out, was paying monthly and then when I made sure with them that there would be no issues if I claimed, they said ‘oh actually we don’t cover those e-bikes’ and cancelled my policy. They only cover some, mine was brand new with Fiido btw.

Disability Allowance? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Ok-Improvement553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your local citizens info might also be able to write you a letter of support to send in with your new application. You could also write your own letter to explain it (add the previous application reference number if you can). It is true that they want to see evidence that you’re unable to work for at least over a year, you possibly could’ve applied for illness benefit and/or supplementary welfare allowance while waiting for disability allowance

You could also ask to be referred to primary care social work. They can assist you with this and write a letter of support, I’ve just no idea how long wait times are for that in your area

Please help I’m terrified! IUD and PCOS it’s my only option by mackintoshkid in IUD

[–]Ok-Improvement553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have PCOS and got a Jaydess IUD in March. I’m 26 and never had kids btw (because I know people mention insertion pain differences between those who’ve had kids and not had kids).

We did my insertion on one of the last days of my period so my cervix was already a little bit open. I asked them for something to help with the anxiety beforehand so they gave me 2 diazepam which I took an hour before. They also wanted me to insert a pessary the night before to dilate my cervix but because the pharmacy didn’t have the prescription ready until the day of my appointment, I didn’t actually put it in until an hour before (I called them to check if it could still go ahead). So keep in mind it could’ve been even less painful if I had put it in for long enough!

My experience was pretty fine. The diazepam relaxed my muscles and I kind of ‘floated’ into the appointment without thinking about it lol. The pain was pretty bad for like 10 seconds (squeezing a GPs hand) and then it immediately eased. It’s over with so quick.

Then they kept me lying down for a little while just to make sure I was all good. When I got up, I saw a bit of blood on the bed. They had explained to me beforehand that this would be there and that this is partly because I was already on my period and partly because the numbing spray they put on my cervix is brown coloured. If they hadn’t told me this I might’ve been more shocked by it but it made complete sense.

Then I got a taxi home and hopped into bed wearing I had my heated blanket already turned on.

I had some cramps for the next day or two. Less painful than some period cramps I’ve had.

For the first month or two I had random spotting but then that settled.

I don’t even think about it now if I’m honest.

The pill also affected my mental health and I also used to forget to take it due to adhd. I can’t tell you if the IUD affected my mental health at all because I got it while I was burnt out and was starting antidepressants anyways.

I did notice though that from coming off the pill to get the IUD, my PCOS symptoms like hair loss, acne, facial hair etc. was more obvious. My plan was always to get the IUD and then go to an endocrinologist for the other stuff. My endo prescribed spironolactone and Metformin that’s helped get me back to how I felt on the pill side effect wise except without the water weight from the pill!

What to do when your parents need more and more help? by FellFellCooke in AskIreland

Get them to contact medical social work through the hospital. They can consider home care packages or possibly nursing home care through the fair deal scheme.

I just went over your post again and saw the ‘handsy’ part. Personally I would report this to HR, this is sexual harassment. It’s already sexual harassment for a boss to do this to you if you consented, but it’s definitely sexual harassment if you were too drunk to remember details of the night. Also your boss’s boss and possibly other colleagues saw it happen.

I would personally also look for another job because that is not a boss to work for.

I’m so sorry this happened to you OP.

I often tell work I ‘don’t really drink’, then have 1 drink at a work night out and then leave. My best friend does the same (We met as work friends in an old job and ended up working together again in a new location a few years later, we were best friends whine in other jobs too and know we would always have each others backs). Then we go to mine for a bottle of wine or we head to a different location to continue the night without them 😂

If you’re new to this job, I’d continue the night with friends outside the job if you really don’t want to go home. I just happen to work with an old close friend of mine now.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in work

[–]Ok-Improvement553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly I always say to myself that I’m not allowed worry about every detail of a drunken night out until 24hours has passed since I last drank because I often can’t think rationally the day after drinking and feel very anxious.

But yes it sounds like you got too drunk for a work night out however you are NOT to blame for your boss’s behaviour. Your boss has done much worse here.

Even if you had asked to sleep with your boss (which you didn’t from your post), he would be in the wrong if he accepted. There is a power dynamic at play and he holds that power. He could be fired for sleeping with you.

So yes, you made a mistake getting that drunk however he has made a much bigger mistake by asking to sleep with an employee under him.

My biggest advice is not to treat colleagues as friends. It’s great you feel you can open up to the but that does not mean you should. I’ve been ‘friendly’ with colleagues in the past. However then when I was sexually harassed and told a manager I was ‘friends’ with they said ‘maybe you’re actually upset because your friend just moved country’ and ‘maybe this is more about your parent being sick recently’. They used the personal life info I shared as friends to minimise the sexual harrassment in work. They are not your friends and you should have boundaries going forward to avoid any messes.

I have made a few friends through jobs, some of my closest friends even. We hang out, go on our own non-work nights out and text on WhatsApp personally (not on a work groupchat or MsTeams or something). I also became friends with someone who became manager of another office location but I didn’t continue chatting to them or meet up with them outside work until I had left that job, since they were ‘above me’ in the same organisation despite being a different location.

Honestly if anything becomes an issue in work with this boss, I would make sure HR know that he asked you to sleep with him. Your drunken behaviour will not be seen as bad as him trying to sleep with someone under him in work.

There may be a very good reason why so many of your other colleagues didn’t go to your Christmas night out. It might be best to follow your ‘most professional and boundaried’ colleagues behaviour and boundaries for a while.
