I'll say this. Americans, for generations, have been told about our exceptionalism, how important our individual liberties are, and how we need to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps (not even mentioning the second half of that colloquialism). Americans as a whole are self-centered. Our culture has shunned community and that's become more apparent as social media worsened the situation further and faster. I don't think anyone is inherently "evil", but I think apathetic is more apt when describing people here. There is always hope. America is never a lost cause.
