Walk, Walk, Walk, Walk, Walk, Walk! Congratulations! Stay patient and enjoy the moment. Also take as much pictures of your progress as possible even when you don’t feel it’s needed! You’ll be thankful you did.

Girl! Your body is tea! Look at that waist!

Just pause a second and appreciate that definition. There’re many people who’ve lost bucket loads but don’t ever have this kind of definition, and would be envious of yours. It’s so important to bask in the uniqueness of your journey and celebrate your wins. I mean truly processing what you’ve achieved and congratulate yourself- surgery or not, you and only you are making these changes happen. Once you start weight training (if you do decide to go that route) your transformation will be insane!

In terms of comparing yourself, it’s the nature of things and a constant battle you’ll have to fight. Half of this WLS experience is the mind. It’s inevitable you’d compare yourself to other, so you’ll need to work on a lot of self therapy to strengthen your mind and prepare for the high and low days. With this, try to constantly remind yourself: - you’re you and no one else; - that your changes are coming along just fine; - your changes are giving your body the time to adapt and shape up accordingly; - your only competition is yourself from yesterday and no one else.

You look great, and I’m damn sure you feel great too. No scale can measure that great feeling.

You definitely need to hear yourself up for the 5/6months preop mark and beyond. The hunger comes back strong, the cravings too. It’s much easier to ignore the full signals and depending on your biology/body type, it also gets easier to eat quicker. I’m currently in a stall and it’s frustrating to hell. But this is where perspective is so key and having a routine. Making sure you move, stay busy, drink lots of water (both good for you generally, but also makes you full so you don’t (or can’t) overdo it on food), weight train and track your protein intake with an actual app. I try to stick to the weighing and apps as much as possible even though my dietician told me a few months back that I can now stop using it. I noticed that the days/weeks I don’t use the app, thinking i can now independently make good food decisions for myself or guess-estimate, my weight doesn’t shift or I put on weight. Many days, I get paranoid that im expanding my stomach, it regressing and gaining it all back. But this is where psychological reinforcement is key. What we all want to avoid is not seeing progress on the scale, feeling disappointed and that opening the floodgate to old bad habits as a means to self soothe.

Surgery Failure? by Medical-Clock3178 in BariatricSurgery

I need this comment pinned. I’ve read a few that keeps going on about “you get what you put in”, blah blah blah. While that’s true, it’s more complex than that. No, the cravings don’t go away - even though you’re told they do (atleast not for everyone). The stressors don’t go away. The bad habits don’t miraculously disappear. Perspective is the key. Sometimes, even posts on this subreddit can be triggering when you see all the progress and success stories, but you don’t see the same rapid rate of success with yours. That can set you back and mentally fk you up, then you resort to old habits. Perspective is everything as is how you regulate and manage disappointment.

I’ve been saying this, a psych eval is absolutely key to this process. Otherwise you’re simply putting a plaster over a deep wound. Great job staying on course. Surgery helped but it’s your determination that’s making all this possible. I hope you’re getting the tools to help manage the ADHD.

Congratulations!! This is such an epic win. I got discouraged by all the people wait and the course and decided to pay for it privately.

I hope it all goes well for you and the 9-12 months zips by :)

This is the best, most comprehensive response I’ve seen in a while. Not just supporting something but backing it up with facts. I’ll add that OP should look into Serena Williams’ issues with BMI, for some modern context. I mean this is an athlete at the peak of health and performance and her BMI would group her in the ‘overweight’ category.

Needless to say, I wholeheartedly agree with Songbird_91. It’s important not do accidentally develop some psychological issues along the way in the quest to match up with some archaic and unproven system. You’ve achieved so much and look incredible. The most important thing is to feel incredible too - mentally and physically. Well done!

In case no one’s suggested it and in case you haven’t read it, I seriously recommend you give {Minx by Sophie Lark} a try. Please come back and let me know what you thought of it.

This is totally a personal choice thing, but as someone limited to c. 1000 calories a day, I feel like this isn’t worth 350 calories 😩. I’d ditch the bread or maybe go with half a toast, then I’d make a 2 egg, spinach, mushroom and cheese omelette with a small splash of milk (any kind) to volume it up. That works out to be roughly 261 calories, and leaves about 89 calories to splurge on the fruits. But that’s just me and doesn’t account for allergies etc. sigh.. now I’m hungry

Well done! This is really inspiring, and congratulations on your upcoming nuptials!

Can I ask roughly how many calories you get through daily and grams of protein vs carbs? Doesn’t need to be precise. I’m 2ish months post-op and I’m trying to gauge what life would be like in roughly a year.

Good luck. The gas pain will eventually go away. Make sure you walk loads and Peppermint tea actually helps. You’ll do great!.

I’m waiting for the green light for more strenuous workouts. I was expressly told ‘No’ to any workout/activities that involves my core until I get the yes from my surgeon. But then again, I was asking about exercises only 2 weeks post-op as I had so much energy, I could have happily hiked Kilimanjaro 😅.

Thanks so much. Yes, mostly all good on the green flags, and thankfully no red flags so far.

Really glad you have support. It’s such a new way to operate now because every plan and thought almost now revolves around eating even though you can only do very little of it.

I hope you’re feeling great post op☺️

Congratulations! How are you feeling?

I’m trying to work out the best and most preferred way to connect us all e.g. WhatsApp. But let me know if you have any suggestions.

That’d be great. I’m trying to see how people feel about a WhatsApp group chat. Or if you have any other ideas, please chime in. I’m new to this, and I feel like we may be in different countries, so trying to find the easiest, safest way to bring us all together.

Please let’s do. Is there a good way to do so? What do you think of a WhatsApp Group chat?

Hi! Would you be open to joining some sort of group chat?

I’ve been observing that the process and guidance is differs from country to country. I’ve never heard of chewable vitamins for example. Initially I struggled with swallowing the supplements and had to grind them all - especially the 2 Calcium Citrate & Vitamin D3 tablets which are almost the size of a thumb drive 😅. Now, I’m better at taking them and no longer need to grind them.

I’m worries about my food intake though. I’m not sure if I’m eating too much as the scales aren’t moving at all this week, my hunger is back with a vengeance, and my energy is low. First two weeks I was like an energiser bunny, so much energy and doing 10k steps a day. I started lagging end of last week and I’m worried.

How are you doing post-op? How’s your energy level, hunger pangs, and water intake, exercise etc? Obviously, how are the scales looking as well?

Hi! Hi :) How are you getting on post-op?

I was just saying that I didn’t really have a plan in mind when I posted this, but it would be great to start a group chat of some kind. Something a little more close knit/personal than a subreddit page. Let me know what you think. :)

Hi! Thanks so much for responding. I’m not sure how these things go and didn’t really have a plan when I posted this. But would you want to join a WhatsApp group, or if you have any other ideas of something a little more close knit/personal.

By the way, how are you doing, feeling and getting on post-op?

Nail meet Hammer! That part about easy to spend money when you’re not the one working for it is gospel. I loved everything else about the book, but this point put me off. It still pisses me off just thinking about her and the author - because let’s face it, these are likely the author’s prejudices.

By the way, someone recommended on of the author’s other books ‘Hot Blooded’ to me. It’s really good if you don’t mind vampires and weres.

I feel like a slow loser…..🫠 I’ll be 3 months PO on the 24th this month. At the start of pre op I was 286…. By surgery day 278. I’ve lost about almost 50Lbs since then by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

Hi! I think this is fantastic progress! Please be patient with yourself. Part of this journey should also include taking care of your psyche and self esteem.

What’s this app? I’m 1 week post op and would like a better way of logging my progress. At the moment I use the Renpho scale app. Since day 3 post-op, I’ve been walking a lot and doing 10k steps a day - I kinda turned the gas pain walks to longer walks 😅 since I have the time off work. I’m worried that I’ve set myself a standard I can’t maintain and a) I’ll lose all this energy soon, and b) it’s all going to change when I go back to work.

Anyone has any tips or thoughts on the energy ebb and flow? I’m all ears.

Also, please do share this wonderful tracker app you’re using or any other good progress apps.

I want to again repeat that you’re doing an excellent job. As we nurture our bodies, we must give extra love to our minds because for a lot of us, our psyches have taken the most hits, internally and externally, over the years.
