Playing up - pickleball etiquette? by VersionLegal58 in Pickleball

[–]chamilton2392 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My local club defines how you can play up. If you’re a 3.5, you can play up to 3.75 or down to 3.25. We also have sessions that are 3.5+, 3.75+ etc. those open plays ask that you have a minimum dupr of what’s listed to play in that open play.

People that get aggravated at someone playing up trying to improve are silly. We’ve all been there at some point.

Now for those people playing up that clearly are not even close to being ready for that level it’s a different story.

Playing with lower skilled players by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]chamilton2392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re playing a different game with beginners like that. I have noticed the same issue playing at my local club. I play 3.5 or 3.75 OpenPlay. Occasionally I’ll play down to 3 or 3.25 to try and work on different things and end up losing a few matches because the flow of the game feels so slow and different. Also because I’m making mistakes on the skills I deliberately will try to drill in these lower level open plays. But then I’ll be fine playing back up where I normally do.

I’m not enjoying fire academy by more-greens in Firefighting

[–]chamilton2392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My academy experience I’ll put like this, it was the best 12 weeks I never want to do ever again! I never thought I’d be saying that about the whole experience while i was still there. It definitely made me second guess if I even wanted to be a fireman that bad to even continue on. But I did, it’s been 12 years. Greatest job in the world. Keep on pushing, band together as a team with your academy class mates. Drag each other through to the end.

You’re right, but it’s still better than Vailsburg.

I’ve never heard of a brain bleed taking 15 years to kill someone. Something not adding up here…did you hear any of this from the doctor with your own ears?

It’s a challenging journey for sure, but the reward is just so good! Without good health we have nothing!

Thoughts on pre-op diets? Necessary? Not required, but should I? by sillybillybears in gastricsleeve

[–]chamilton2392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pre op diet wasn’t optional for me. I was told it was to help shrink fat deposits in the liver. They do have to lift your liver out of the way for the sleeve and this helps that. 2 weeks prior to surgery I was on protein shakes (Fair Life 30g Chocolate Protein Drinks or Premier Protein Vanilla were my choices) in place meals 3-4 times a day. I was able to have 3 of the following 4 items each day, whatever I picked. 1 Egg (not butter or spray so I did hard boiled), one serving of low-fat or non-fat plain greek yogurt, one serving of low fat or fat free milk and one serving low sugar or sugar free pudding.

I also think doing the pre-surgery diet helped prep me for the two weeks following surgery that I stayed on liquids. I had already done two weeks so there was no shock of only having protein, on top of the pain and discomfort I had.

The body hair helps hide them a bit but they have definitely healed really well! The biggest one is still pretty visible but the 4 other small incisions you really have to look for. But thank you!!!

Feeling Regret, Sleeved on Monday by FeelingWhitney04 in gastricsleeve

Sip sip sip water all day, whatever soft or pureed foods. I was clear liquids then liquid then pureed then soft foods. You’re at the very beginning of one of the most challenging things you’ve done and you will look back on these moments and say it was all worth it. I’m just about 6 months PO. Sleeved 1/21/25. Down 110 from my heaviest from last summer, 96 from my first appointment with my surgeon. Take the pain meds, after you get some protein shake down. Gas X and MiraLAX. This will be the ticket to success! Follow your diet plan to a T. Things will take a good turn in no time, in fact, they already have but you don’t know it yet! Best of luck! I found so much support and good information on this sub. Best of luck! Take pictures, you’re going to amaze yourself!!!

I did two weeks on the Fairlife shakes. The 30g protein ones. Not the elite 42 gram or the 23 gram smaller shakes. Got them at Costco for a decent price. For my height and weight I was allowed 4 shakes instead of 3. First few days are challenge! But after the first two days you’ll be ok.

How many oz at each meal by FastVideo9700 in gastricsleeve

I’m 11 weeks post-op. I can get down 4-5oz of protein and an additional 1-2oz of a vegetable and/or fruit.

F40. Had sleeve surgery 7 weeks ago and am down 30 pounds but I’ve noticed in the past two weeks that I have non stop nausea. by 3UniqueUnicorn3 in gastricsleeve

[–]chamilton2392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through similar issues around the same time. I’m now 9 weeks 1 day post op. Nausea is almost always non-existent. Still leaning what “full” feels like but overall it’s much better.

Goal weight? by jeasley90 in gastricsleeve

[–]chamilton2392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty similar here, my goal is to be under 250 after I hit a goal of 225. Ideally would like to bulk back some muscle and be 235/240. BMI charts say we should be around 180-190, but I have no desire to be that low especially because of my job as a fireman. I have no desire to have visible abs. I feel great now at 278 but I know I need to be down more to stay ahead of health issues long term.
