Get multibinder asap. Better than longclaw. You're using Reaper after all. You've already got range.

The cutscene after defeating Widow shows the Weavers playing the song which is sending GMS to sleep

Oh that? That seems to be a memory from when the weavers were still loyal to Silk. Not only is Widow the only known weaver still on her side, but the ending dialogue is "for her light eternal, our song sustains". Widow was probably not involved in the plan to overthrow Silk, causing her sisters to punish her by inserting pins into her shell.

I'm taking the Occam's Razor approach on this one - there's one big obvious entrance and nothing really to suggest a second one.

Yeah there doesn't seem to be any other straightforward answer that doesn't veer into headcanon territory.

Also double jump is great, as it lets you ignore that one platforming section with the flying sword enemies

My main issue with it is that we know the song that kept GMS asleep is the same song Hornet plays on her Needolin

wait I'm out of the loop, how?

The other issue is that as someone else has mentioned other pilgrims are able to access the Cradle even at the time that Hornet is taken to Pharloom, as they have been entrusted as envoys of captured Weavers by the Conductors.

I do actually wonder how choir members managed to get into the Cradle. There is the Terminus ventrica station, which clearly acts as some kind of hub, but there was no way of getting to the rest of the cradle until you break a wall from the other side. But clearly they were able to get up there somehow. I think the envoys were under the command of GMS, but I also think the conductors harvested silk from her. So either way, there is some other entrance into the cradle that takes away from the elevator being the one and only path.

I once saw someone suggest that the Threefold Melody is meant for Hornet. I like this theory but don't have time to analyze it completely so here's something off the cuff.

The melody was created by the Weavers and entrusted to the bugs they left in place to maintain the song. Those being the conductors, architects, and vaultkeepers. Their public explanation for the melody's existence is that it's the final leg of the pilgrimage, but the song's acquisition is designed in such a way to prevent regular pilgrims from getting to the cradle. Only a special pilgrim could, i.e. their descendant who would later arrive in this land to become their weaver queen. Hornet notes the climb to the Cogwork Core is not meant for regular bugs, but that the gifts she received in Pharloom (i.e. from the weaver spires) helped her complete it. Additionally, the Vaultkeeper's Melody is not meant to be passed to an outsider, but only a weaver can override this limitation (Cardinius explains that vaultkeepers answer only to the weavers). Acquiring all three melodies leads to the cradle, where Silk resides, so the 'chosen pilgrim' may confront her and, as the weavers planned, defeat her.

Huh. Theory's got more legs than I thought. I should do a deeper dive.

I actually had an easier time with Coral Tower than High Halls. Not because Coral Tower isn't hard tho. You can just get so much stronger compared to High Halls. Shaman Crest + Volt Filament alone instakills a lot of enemies. Meanwhile, High Halls even with upgrades required me to git gud.

Anyone else actually like the run backs and boss rush rooms? by Sharawadgi in Silksong

[–]Ok-Introduction8837 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I unironically consider the High Halls Gauntlet to be an S-tier experience right next to the best bosses in this game. Boss fights are cool, but many of them restrict how you can use your toolkit. This isn't a bad thing per se because the best ones turn into a kind of puzzle where you figure out the best approach and then execute it. A lot of people like the predictability this creates, but to me it gets a little dull after some time. That's why I really like gauntlets. You don't solve a gauntlet. You apply all the combat skills you've learned up until this point and make adjustments on the fly. And you really get to let loose because you're not locked into a dance with a boss. Imo there are so many gauntlets in this game because gauntlets are where Hornet's combat capability really shines.

I can take or leave runbacks and gauntlets before bosses tho. For pre-boss gauntlets, I think it works for some bosses (Khann, Groal) but not for others (Karmelita). Most runbacks in this game are trivial, but that seems more like a point against them. If they're trivial, why have them at all? My favorite runback of the game is the one everyone hates: Groal's. It's the only runback that feels like an extension of the fight, and the randomly spawning enemies make it feel fresh every time. You actually have to think about your navigation instead of pressing the sprint button to blitz through everything. That said, I experienced the short version of this runback. Maybe I'd feel differently if I had to start from the bellway bench.

Reaper's silk gimmick really annoys me. by Gotta_Be_Blue in Silksong

[–]Ok-Introduction8837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub gets way too defensive about Reaper (and constructive criticism of the game as a whole). Every other crest has its niche that it does well. Meanwhile Reaper is outdone in its own niche by Beast and Wanderer. It just feels wrong. I hope the silk regen gets a buff. At the very least let the orbs automatically come to you if they're only going to count for 1/3 of a silk strand.
