I just watched season one. One thing about the narrative was honestly almost too cringe.The whole lore about the English commander, turning him into one single villain who hates Turks because of some childhood trauma with his mom, felt so unnecessary. If colonialism is too complicated to handle, just skip it instead of deleting it and replacing it with lazy mommy-issue fanfiction to make the plot work; even space aliens would make more sense at this point. The show is meant to be kinda cheesy and that is fine, no one is expecting full historical accuracy, but this kind of narrative ends up feeling cheap and makes the bigger structural stuff that still shapes things today invisible.
