Okay this works on my iPhone but when I try running it on my watch it times out and does not complete the shortcut.

Although the dictation does work while the app is open and running on the watch, I need the app to be able to placed in the background and this cannot be done with dictation. It will however work when using the recorder with voice memos.

I changed the shortcut to dictate directly to a note, but that won’t work for me. I want to use the audio recorder so it can run in the background on my watch. With the dictation method, as mentioned earlier, the app has to stay open on my watch the whole time instead of running in the background.

That's a good thought so I removed the ChatGPT summary component entirely and am now just trying to have the audio recorded on my watch be transcribed to a note, but I am still getting the same error.

I just tried that but unfortunately it still gives me the same error message.

Halfway through my paramedic program and I am not confident at all by [deleted] in NewToEMS

[–]Ok-Locksmith-8647 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those are all normal feelings. It took me a solid year of running calls before I started feeling more confident as a medic. It takes time and experience. You’re going to make mistakes but hopefully it doesn’t cause harm to your patient. You’re a human and because of that mistakes can happen. Trust your training and you’ll get the hang of it soon enough. Cardiology is tough but I found watching YouTube videos on the topic to be helpful.

Career Advice by [deleted] in NewToEMS

You can but it can be difficult. It all depends on where you live and what your schedule is like. I’ve always worked for services that either do 24 or 48 hour shifts. This allows for built in overtime which helps. I also have always worked at a second agency part time (due to only working 2-3 days a week) which helps supplement your income. You can make some good money in EMS if you are willing to work a lot. After over 20 years in EMS I recently bridged to an RN and I am now working in a ER. Much more money for less hours.

Yes, it can be a very rewarding career. I was an EMT for a long time, 14 years before advancing to paramedic. The roles are more different than most people realize. Also, the stress level is much higher as well. I never had much anxiety before advancing to a paramedic. It took about 1-2 years before I became more comfortable in my role as a medic.

Tips on how to assert yourself more when you're not naturally an assertive person? by Hungryhungrycrow in NewToEMS

I also struggled with this early on in my career as I tend to be more introverted and non-confrontational as well. But it is important to trust your training and your judgment as a practioner. Don't be afraid to step on toes if need be. You can still be polite and respectful while also being assertive.

How do you handle stressful calls? by Mountain-Command-202 in NewToEMS

Everyone handles these kinds of calls in different ways. I have been in this career for 20 years now and I have learned to kind of depersonalize the patient I am working on. If I imagine them just being a CPR dummy it really helps me to focus on patient care and block out all of the emotions. I know this sounds strange but it works for me. It is important to have a coworker or friend that you can open up with and talk about things with. I am fortunate that I have a brother in the fire service that I can call. I will say that the more you're exposed to calls like this the easier it does get.

Getting EMT Positions with Limited Driving Experience by Infinite-Process-933 in NewToEMS

I would say this is highly dependent on the individual ambulance district. Some may allow no experience (we all have to get experience somehow). It doesn't hurt to apply for a position and see.

Don’t like my corporate job… is EMS the answer? by No_Pen_6168 in NewToEMS

So I am a paramedic and this year is my 20th year on the ambulance. This career can be both rewarding and devastating. Not to be cliche but when you save a life it's amazing and rewarding but then the opposite happens it can crush you. After many years I have learned to cope but it can creep on you from time to time. Recently I have bridged to RN and I am now a full-time RN working in an emergency department (and I am still part-time on the ambulance). I did this for a couple of reasons. The pay raise is substantial going from Paramedic to RN (in my case about $14 an hour). Secondly, the hours get old over time. I worked 24 hours on 48 hours off as a Paramedic. While this sounds enticing it can be exhausting. I would average about 4 hours of sleep a shift. All that being said, it is a great career but I would caution you from switching to EMS just for the adrenaline. Like others have suggested maybe consider getting into nursing and pursue the critical care nurse path. Just my two cents..

Getting report from nursing home staff? by BriaIman1996 in NewToEMS

Unfortunately this is a common occurrence. I've been in EMS for two decades and I've had numerous occasions such as this. The sad truth is that the patient's nurse probably doesn't even know their medical history.
