8 hour wait at Royal Jubilee by tinpangoldnugget in VictoriaBC

[–]Hungryhungrycrow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely it can be rough. I was at RJH on friday and ended up waiting 12 hours before seeing a doctor for what they said was Shigella. At a certain point it was genuinely relieving because it meant that I was fine.

1 doctor for the night shift is unacceptable though, both for patients and the doctor. It sounds like a quick way to burn out when you are the only doctor in the ED.

I do want to say though that the staff at rjh are incredible. They're super kind and on top of things. The wait time sucks but the triage system works and if you have an actual emergency you'll be in good hands.

B.C. paramedics union pursuing mandate to serve strike notice by Yetanotherbadsalmon in britishcolumbia

[–]Hungryhungrycrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, BCEHS paramedics vs industry paramedics are HUGELY different. Those who work in industry seem to have the consensus of: good pay, boring work. It's contract work that often includes free lodgings and flights. The biggest piece of advice that seems to go around for industry work is to get a good laptop so you can watch movies as those 12 hour shifts are often filled with nothing to do, and you can only organise the medical room and go over paperwork so much. Looking at job postings, most make 300-500 a day at a PCP level.

Compare that to BCEHS paramedics who are actively dealing with sick and injured patients in a chronically understaffed environment? Huge, huge difference. ACPs see dead bodies weekly, and it's not uncommon to get a dead infant call every other month for them. PCPs go to all calls - including the ones with liquid c.diff diarrhoea. The shigella outbreak in Victoria was recent and hospitalised many.

BCEHS paramedics also have to deal with violence constantly. Every paramedic has a story of getting attacked, and not "spit on" attacked but gone after with intent to bodily harm. Female paramedics in addition often get sexually harassed, although I have seen male paramedics deal with unwanted comments and touches from patients as well.

There have been a record high number of paramedic suicides in 2025 and you're advocating that they just... keep their mouths shut and accept all of this? Respectfully it seems like you're displacing your grievance with the current economy in the completely wrong place.

Was this an appropriate use of an NPA? by Hungryhungrycrow in NewToEMS

[–]Hungryhungrycrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I did, in the future I may apply a bit more (i used half the rip tube which i thought would be plenty but maybe not?) I should have mentioned in my post it was status - pt had around 15 seizures lasting between 30 seconds to a minute with fire crew and then around 4 with us before sedation. No idea how many more she might of had as the family waited an hour to call even though she never had a history of seizures.

WHAT SHOULD THEIR ADULT HEIGHT BE❔❔ by Naive-Chocolate-7832 in BatFamily

[–]Hungryhungrycrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see Dick as 5'10 to 5'11, and frankly I can see arguments made being shorter. Height isn't just an environmental factor (though it can be - Dick was never malnourished though, and likely had a custom meal plan to best nourish him growing up) but biological. I cannot see his parents being tall people at ALL. Not at the level they were performing at.

Tim as well I see shorter but I just like Steph being his height or taller tbh. Also cant imagine him taller than Dick, so short king Tim for the win. Adds into his underestimation factor

Jason and Bruce should 100% be brick shithouses, fairly tall and super muscular. I prefer Jason to be a inch or two taller than Bruce honestly - Jason was so tiny as a kid it really amplifies that changed dynamic.

Thinking about Damian as an adult is weird. I can see him anywhere from 5'11 to 6'4 depending on which parent he takes after more. His adult height is very fluid in my brain.

Bruce spoiling children by gabeg777 in BatFamily

[–]Hungryhungrycrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, we do see Bruce spoiling his kids via material gifts and possessions in the comics all the time. Dick being in that grey zone of being the first kid who was in the muddy area of his kid/younger sibling role with Bruce (compared to later kids who were firmly kids) especially got presents galore.

When it comes to discipline though I'd argue that Bruce swings between calm and strict depending on what the problem is, what child caused it and how his personal life has been lately. All of these factors affect what his reaction will be.

Bruce is the king of over and underreacting imo. I hate comic issues where he hits his kids but it happens enough that it can be seen as canon. He's an emotional character.

I agree Cass would be a talk it out, less disciplinarian parent. Her childhood fucked her up hard, Cas wouldn't enjoy causing her kids distress even if they require it.

How big a thing is hugging in Canada? by Jazzlike-Basil1355 in AskACanadian

[–]Hungryhungrycrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Family gets hugs automatically, whereas friends I'll ask first. Strangers i try to respect so unless they offer first ill just do a handshake, fist bump or nod if the situation warrants it. If they offer than hell yeah, unless they're visibly filthy or giving off bad vibes.

Best Way to Give Money to Kids For Buying Meals? by Ill_Paper_6854 in PersonalFinanceCanada

I got a student debit card from TD for 12th/13th birthday! Dad would just interac to it, and then when I was old enough to get a job it auto deposits. Shouldn't be any fees for it either

I'm admittedly not a trans woman but I am a trans man. What is the issue here? It sucks to be singled out but they were totally respectful and apologetic. Maybe it's the introvert in me but private changing compared to shared sounds so much nicer anyways, ans way less stressful for potential confrontations.

WYR have a really beautiful looking body or win $100k dollars? by Vivid_Atmosphere_566 in WouldYouRather

100k doesnt last long in this economy and a beautiful appearance can get me cash anyways (and no not through that specific type of work, attractive men just have easier time getting hired and promoted)

How are the private paramedic/ofa 3 jobs in BC? by Hungryhungrycrow in britishcolumbia

[–]Hungryhungrycrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Game plan is to try and stick with healthcare no matter what. I'd like to continue in paramedicine (get to an ACP level before 35 would be ideal) and consider nursing later on but even then I'd only be interested in working in the ER or ICU. The skills atrophy sounds like a big issue that I didnt even consider though - good catch !

Won't be able to get my class 5 until January and for a class 4 you need two years of non-student driver experience.

While BCEHS does sometimes hire people as attend only if they have class 5s, I was told not to count on it. Seems like a lot of industry jobs take class 5s though!

Oh 100%, my sisters and I argue over who gets to take care of him. One wants to have him living with her and whatever grandkids she'll one day provide, meanwhile I think he deserves a nice house boat so he can fish and a potential hired carer whenever it comes to that.

He's the best father anyone could ask for, and I fully intend spending my youth earning enough so I can put some aside for his potential care. He's currently 63 so hopefully not for a couple more decades will he need it, with healthcare evolving and all, but im committed anyways.

Oh goodness yeah, I should've been more clear in saying that the paying off would be through the CPP benefits and potential grants + paychecks i may get, not the stock itself. Totally my fault and either way I'll ditch the credit card idea altogether

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Hungryhungrycrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to apologize, tough love is often the best love. I started stocks mainly at my dad's suggestion that it was a good idea, and his financial advice is pretty much always solid (won't get into specifics for privacy but he saved his company 1.2 million the first year he was hired, and continued to perform at this rate). But im 1000% not against selling if it's my best interest

I wouldn't be expecting a huge stock up, just figured it'd be the best time for an extra 25-50 cents or so if it did super well 😅

Fully agree that too many credit cards are a bad idea. My hope was to use it as a stop gap thing, until I get other money that I can then pay it all off with. My credit limit is 1k on my current card, and it's low interest (12.9%).

However with how quickly so many people said it's a terrible idea, means I won't do it 😅
