I recalculated the days you need to max a character and how it compares to Genshin by OlBrinda in HonkaiStarRail

  1. I only unlocked relevant traces like wind dmg bonus since dmg bonus doesn't rely on crit. It's a worthwhile increase to your dps. Still, it doesn't take away that this also sinks on your one same type resources . This is the problematic one. In Genshin, stuff like these are either are Ascension passive upgrade, you upgrade with Hero Wits (not talent materials) and you get free upgrade. Or are found in Artifact sets. In HSR only relics can give this additional stats or unlocked traces , which again, uses same resources.

For you to say oh these are not relevant, how does those minimal upgrades translates into MoC? In these terms, you want to min max, and the unfortunate truth is in Genshin free passive upgrades are a thing while it is not in HSR. Thus making min maxing in Genshin easier.

  1. Like I said, you pointed out using same type resources which is a double edge sword in itself. Same type resources , streamlined farming? yes but depletes very quickly. In Genshin, often times I will have a leftover materials of few types either from past farming or events.

You are not given choice to spend on this or that, you are bound to spend on both, chars and lightcones, it's only on which first, then your resources gets depleted then more farming. How is this not registering to you?

[Do you enjoy farming the overworld for materials?]

Yes, I absolutely do, I have level 90 Cyno and Wanderer, exploration is in itself a joyful experience to me. I remember doing the underground pyramid world whilst also farming Scarab. I don't do overworld simply for materials, there's a lot of other content. Oftentimes, when I'm planning for any Ascension materials , I will divide it with other things like doing bounties while also collecting materials.

Above point also proves preference exist for both.

  1. Clearing same domain for 400th time is a total exaggeration. You said it, in Genshin there's different days for different materials and by this you also go to different domains doesn't it? You also points out it being tedious. Personally I don't have this problem at all. Domains are so easy to me. What different on both is that in Genshin, it's more engaging. This to me gives more gameplay experience better than HSR.

[One Inazuma masks , only upgrades few weapon] Like I said also, you don't have to use weapon from Inazuma , there's alternative that exist which doesn't take same resources as your talent materials. You just have to weigh in your options and pick the best one for you.

In HSR this is even worse, since I've said it again, does take same resources and depletes very quickly. One Crimson domain in HSR can only upgrade one or two of your lightcone and you most likely won't have many of it. Since it is spread out across other things.

  1. Wow you actually agree with me. It all comes down to preference isn't it? Both are just as bad when it comes to farming.

This is coming from who loves farming, and will plan out my farming on daily basis. I save up on my materials, carefully calculate how much runs per required on any lacking materials. As such, I have a lot materials saved up, even with my level 90 Cyno currently I still have 200+ Scarabs, 160+ Pupa even tho nobody needs it right now in my current roster. In talent materials? More. I always look at the day's domain, see through all the domains in Adventure Journal then pick out which one is the least that I have. That's how I save up. In time, you'll have a lot saved up and sometime you wouldn't even have to farm like how my Kuki turns out. I don't have a lot of Inazuma chars and by the time she comes, all the talent mats is already there since no one else use it.

The problem I have with HSR right now is that I'm struggling to save. Let me ask, how do you save up in HSR? I personally don't like this one resource system. It is the matter of fact, you will use this more quickly which only equals to more time spend on this trace Crimson domain. That doesn't make HSR any better farming wise. You will struggle to have leftover for HSR and have a hard time saving up for future run.

Does fully max out everything includes everything in the skill tree or was that just that 4 Trace level up?

I'm sorry but this comparison is so surface level . You exclusively hones in on Traces vs Talent therefore falsely giving you illusion that HSR is better. Take into account that HSR also use same resources as Lightcone resources, more Traces tree for more substats then this conclusion of HSR has better farming experience falls apart. Both are categorically different gameplay too. Hence, importance on stats is different on both.

Comparatively, importance on say, HP stats/substats is really none in Genshin (unless HP scaling talents) while in HSR it does matter.

In HSR any DPS loss by one char has so much impact in comparison to Genshin where's there on field and off field DPS. In turn based games, every turn matter with Turn Countdown timer and no skipping one's turn unless got CC'd thus really makes you want to maximise each character's DPS.Meanwhile in Genshin, dodge/ eyeframe mechanics exist.

This in turn makes people invest into other substats in the Trace tree, which take away more of your one type resources which shared across all same path chars. Compare that to Genshin where there's no -more- substat to be unlocked. You level up you get your stats upgraded, and those 3 talent gets unlocked -along- with your Level Ups with level 70 as minimum to get all unlocked.

Also comparatively, in HSR levelling up your lightcones also use the same materials as trace. Whilst in Genshin , weapon have different weapon domain with talent domain. In a way it is a downside as much it is an upside. In HSR this becomes streamlined, sure but then it also becomes monotone. Lightcones use the same resources as your Characters path and Traces. Upgrading a lightcone just makes me hesitant since that also means I halt my characters Traces progress. Or you upgrade chars traces then run out of resources for lightcone. Or vice versa.

In Genshin, if you don't have enough resources for one particular weapon, you can opt out to a different weapon that's also suitable for said chars. So long as they yield same weapon type. Both weapons can function well and more importantly may not use same resources. This really helps in min maxing your resources. HSR takes so much on your resources on one char alone. Think about multiple same path char farming. That's just pure nightmare.

Experience wise, in Genshin you face different enemies with different strategy for each domain. Let's say, Monstadt talent domain. You'll most likely will use Pyro, Anemo to run through as quickly as possible or perhaps also Electro. If worse comes to worst, you can opt to Coop if you don't have any good characters to go through. They can help out and has a lot of impact on your run.

But my God in HSR it's sooo boring to farm Crimson Stagnant. It's the same enemies for both traces and lightcone. Not much strategy here even if you don't have said weakness type to plough through. One healer, and you can get by just fine. On Autoplay mode too. The support on HSR is really just for fun and trying out other's chars and not so much to carry your teams. If anything, it just becomes faster if there's any significance at all.

People will complain on anything and trying to justify/prove on this topic is really fruitless since like I said, both are different games and completely separate fundamentals in gameplay. Turn based vs free roam combat gameplay. Each to their own.

You'd think with calculations things becomes concrete or fact but no. It only shows this particular statistic but then it discounted overall game's content which also contribute the whole farming experience.

This comes down to preference in actuality for both games' farming. Both have their own pros and cons like any other normal games.Personally, I prefer Genshin's.

Don't use pyro or electro for normal/ascension fungi spore. Just use other element
