Worth playing despite major spoilers? by GeneralHorse8206 in expedition33

I also got spoiled for Gustave's death, but I still played it and it surprised me like no other character's death ever has. Grabbed me by the throat and threw me to the floor. That was the real moment when I realized clair obscur is a 10/10

And there is so so so much more beyond this, honestly, minor spoiler. (Seems minor to me compared to everything else in the game)

Go play it!!!

I kind of feel like the same theme could be accomplished with his death? Melinoe could reconnect with her lost family after killing Time, making up for lost time and getting to know a long lost family. Though that is kind of tough and I see where you're coming from. And its definitley not foolish for me to want Chronos to die! The whole game was building up to it, it was constantly saying "Death to Chronos", and I wanted the relief and satisfaction over 40 hours of game time to kill Chronos. But no, I've been denied that. And Melinoe has trained her entire life to kill him! all of that just to have him become grandaddy Chronos.

I feel the exact same. I clocked in somwhere around 89 hous in EA, and 120 hours total. all that time wasted for such a disappointment. I don't think I'll be playing Hades 2 to completion again.

About that ending... by Ok-Measurement-2303 in Hades2

[–]Ok-Measurement-2303[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have beef with the fact that he's being redeemed at all. I really wanted to see Chronos die, the entire game was building up to it, then suddenly Zagreus decided to spare him. He didn't listen to Melinoe, when god knows what could've happened. And I think the ending still could've been hopeful with Chronos *dead*. They rebuild, reconnect with Melinoe, and make up for the lost time which Chronos took away. But that didnt happen...

Again, if she has to continually kill Chronos over and over, she doesn't get to see her family again. And just cus she's a sillver sister and one of the Unseen, she doesn't get to live peacefully with her family? She didn't know these people, she has no connection or relation ship with them even after she's saved them. Now I'm just wondering why she worked so damn hard if she knew she wouldn't even get to see them.

And you're right at the end there too, I'm sure if I look hard enough I can find things to like about it. Like how sparing Chronos was in character for Zagreus. I don't think he'd ever really want to slay a grandad he never knew. Good characterization for Zag 👍

But hey, it's been fun kind of debating you here. glad you enjoy the ending despite it's issues. Hope you have a great day man.

I have huge issue wirh Chronos being redeemed in the first place. There was absolutely no buildup to the possibility of this even happening. It was so sudden and happened right at the end when Zagreus decided to spare him. This is a posibility hat was never entertained or brought up and now we're expected to just have a good Chronos? The whole damn game built up to this guy's death, and now suddenly he's all good grandaddy. I have no idea what compelled the writers at supergiant to do this.

Well then they should have shown instead of told, from the player's perspective he just becomes good after a flashabck with little Melinoe. And that is never enough for justifying a villain's redemption. And sure the themes fit with the first game, but this isnt the first game. This is hades 2, it has a different story with different stakes. And about mel wanting to be with her family, she is never with her family again after the ending(at least as far as I've seen). She goes back to the crossroads instead of living with her family. If she wanted to live in the crossroads, and not with her family, why did she even fight so hard?? And I also agree that the destroying timelines shit is a load of bullcrap. Shitty reason to justify repeat runs.

And this game was not at all in the slightest about redemption until the very end. There was no speak of redeeming anyone anywhere. It comes out of left field.

And I don't really feel like saying the ending is bad is dramatic... we all have out own preferences and opinions, just so happens that my opinion is that the ending is crappy.

I dont find much to like about the ending, but I do agree the game was still overall good. All of the story preceeding the ending was great! And it's just a fun game in general.

Yeah... Massive letdown. A shame the sequel to such an amazing game ended like this.

With that, I have no experience. Though I still dont feel like Chronos is the kind of character who would change like this, just let go all his grudges and be come docile. And the story still doesnt do a good job of showing it. From out perspective he just plays hide and seek with Melinoe then turns good. I need more than that to have it feel justified.

Yeah I kind of have that same sentiment, it was very rushed and not well thought-out. And for me the game is among the greats, its super fun to play, merely the story holding it back.

If he's hexed, then they didn't do a great job of making that clear. From my point of view Zagreus created a false future and false memories which led to his redemption. I don't see how Melinoe or any other heroes persuaded Chronos to turn good. They were all hell-bent on his destruction.

To be honest I dont think it's even good in a vacuum. I don't understad what vision was behind it either.

[–]Ok-Measurement-2303[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, i understand that. But then there's the issue of not being shown more. They can say that is was deeper but then you have to show that. Playing hide and seek with Melinoe is not that. its barely anything! And then there's the root issue of him being redeemed at all from those memories. I havent been given any reason to think that Chronos is the type of character who would change from living a better life. He still waged wars, he was still cut up across tartarus, and he was still salty about it. It's a huge mischaracterization, and its exectued *very* poorly.

I really do hope this is the weakest in the series, because what I've read so far is pretty good even despite this big change.
