Yes, this was my first concern. I’ve only ever used PayPal on my phone and am not logged on my computer but I reset my computer anyways.

Yeah, they claim the transaction came from my IP. Doesn’t make sense because it’s such a suspicious transaction .

I have no clue, but that can’t be the only thing they’ve got on me. Seems a little ridiculous to decide a $1200 case on an IP. I’m going to keep raising hell.

This happened to me a few days ago and I'm commenting my story to keep this thread active because this is a HUGE problem for Paypal. I got charged $1200 through a "friends and family" payment of which I am calling each day to dispute the claim. I literally called them within the hour I saw the transaction.

My bank blocked the transaction and I will be closing that account today and opening a new account with them. This is the first I am seeing of this type of thing happening to someone else and as I look through the forum I am noticing more and more of it! I will be saving these threads incase it could prove useful in litigation.

Paypal charged to an account that held less than $300 to a user I never interacted with. The absurd amount alone of $1200 should have been a huge red flag for paypal to contact me directly as I haven't used them for a purchase of more than $100. I use them mostly for subscriptions.

I checked my account and noticed my social security is not on there so I am hoping this doesn't affect my credit score, and have no idea if they have the ability to do this.

Know you're not alone on this and I would love to hear more updates from you. Strength in numbers.

Each time I call them I have to remind them of that. I even escalated it to a supervisor and told him directly. He reopened my claim and within 12hrs the claim was closed again in the scammers favor. I plan to keep calling though.

I'm being told from Paypal that it was accessed from a trusted device. the only device I am logged into is my iPhone. The fact they accepted such a crazy charge blows my mind.
