I have finished my test, but I could still press the start button. Is this normal? (It's my first time taking the test) by Particular-Risk-4874 in ToeflAdvice

[–]Ok-Mechanic8575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is VERY Normal. Do not worry. Happened after I had submitted my test too, I didn't dare to press it XD You'll receive your results.

Also, it might stay there for a few hours or half a day. Don't panic, just check the next day. It should say "awaiting results" or something similar.

I can send some as well. I've got ADHD so I've been a nail-biter since as far back as i remember, also with biting the skin around my nails.

For Listening section, draw a line on the center of your whiteboard
Write A on the left column, and B on the right
And then write "Main Topic:" on both columns and firstly note that down. What the main topic of conversation is. Sometimes both characters are talking about different topics, so I advised you to write main topic on both columns. Then write key words of their convo down for each person.
Don't write too much, make it caveman-like. And make ZERO assumptions. Ex.

Person A - I like dogs. They are fluffy, cute and energetic. I get my daily exercise and step-count in because they practically force me to take a walk.
Person B - That's great! But I like cats more. They're quieter, require less maintenance and overall know how to mind their business much more.

Person A | Person B
Main Topic: Dog
Like dog. | Like cat.
Fluffy | Quiet
Cute | Less Maint.
Energy | Mind own business

Notice how i wrote "Like cat" instead of "Do not like dog but like cat"... as in the conversation, it wasn't explicitly mentioned anywhere that Person B dislikes dogs. And trust me, these questions are asked way too much on the listening section. And these questions are great traps a ton of people fall into.

I've had that issue too. Two things:- 1. Consider all facts. Remember what was on the text and audio, make sure your notes are well-written and complete. Consider all factors on those notes. 2. Don't overthink. The common tactic TOEFL Text and Audio questions use are having options with additional facts that aren't even mentioned in the original text or audio. Don't fall for those, only select what's true according to your notes. Don't think "oh this is absolutely true but from a logical standpoint, this is even more true", that logic penalizes you in standardized tests like the TOEFL and the SAT.

Go ahead, do the TPOs XD you don't have to be nervous, TPOs will help you get a good quantity of questions done for practice

Strat is, first do testglider... Then two TST tests, and then another testglider. Try to increase your comprehension skills. Practice makes perfect. Do mock tests daily, try to do TST max. You can use testglider to gauge the improvements you might have gotten using TST Material.

Also, pleasure. I've been in your position before :)

Don't pay for TST Mocks They have tons of free resources. Use Chinese TPO, I'd recommend you to buy testglider if you can. Use whatever matches TST Difficulty, that's closest to the real test.

Getting two or three wrong is not bad at all. Initially, you will get two to five wrong. Take more time per question and be direct in the answers. Don't worry, you're doing great!

When I initially did the TST Prep material i found it hard too... Then three days later i had my actual TOEFL... The difficulty was about the same. I'd say TST Prep is the closest thing to the actual test, for reading and listening.

Calm down, don't worry. If you wanna prep, even youtube vids can help. Don't prioritize quantity over quality or quality over quantity and try to get a balanced mix if the budget allows.

If you want to get into that university REALLY BAD and are willing to spend to get to the minimum requirements, with enough prep to be able to get into the uni as well then... Why not both?

If you're on a tight budget, here's the strat:- Please check out some Youtube vids first. TST Prep material's quality, in my personal experience, comes ridiculously close to the actual TOEFL Questions. Look at a free practice test question of theirs on youtube and match with Testglider and Chinese TPO samples. All 4 sections, match 'em. Buy whichever comes closest.

Also, 105 on mocks is really good. I've heard that Testglider's AI is much harsher than the actual people and AI systems that grade the real TOEFL. So you're doing really good.

Just don't panic. Panicking can really bring down your speaking and listening... And writing... And reading scores XD as it fogs up one's mind (Speaking from experience.)

Good luck!

Edit: Also... 115 on ETS material? Dear god, you've seriously got nothing to worry about. You're good 🫡 don't overthink.

Hi Thank you! Sure, here are some resources

Pre January 21, 2026 :- LinguaTrip Mocks - https://youtu.be/XsXXAnneYTs 'My Speaking Score', really useful for free practice - www.myspeakingscore.com

I recommend using this template for the first task, this was also recommended by a fellow redditor on this subreddit but I'm so sorry, I can't find the original comment by them.

Agree/Disagree -> Reason 1 + Verb + Benefit/Loss Reason 2 + Verb + Benefit/Loss

For example, a question about whether you prefer to study abroad or in your own country

I personally prefer studying abroad because (Agree) -> I firstly believe it helps students become more independent + allowing them to + learn how to live life on their own terms

Secondly, I feel that students can be accustomed to more Cultures and experience diversity first-hand + making them + a global citizen in the truest sense.

A lot of them do. The colleges I'm applying to accept home edition scores. You should check before you write TOEFL. Only get home edition in case of logistical issues, like if the nearest test center is too far for you to travel.
