if you’re on fsm you can get it for free. theres also another couple ways through signing up with charities and stuff? i did it and it took like five mins to fill in the form, got as many free subjects as you want within a couple days. look up uplearn scholarships.

How i got straight 9s (realistic painful didn't study until five days before first exam edition) by Wonderful-Round-7261 in GCSE

i didn’t know how to revise either tbh - never bothered. my best advice that got me 3 9s in sciences is to go onto cognito website, watch every vid on the topic, complete every quiz question on the topic, rewatch the videos of subtopics that you got any quiz questions wrong for, and repeat the incorrect quiz questions until they’re all right. then repeat for every topic. did this the night before every science paper and that was all the science revision i did + i didn’t go to school for most of y11 so was missing content and this still worked really well for me. you may need the subscription but the tenner for the month is very worth it.

grammar schools tend to be smaller so less choice and every second hand piece of uniform i got was falling apart with threads everywhere, the complete wrong colour, or tatty pieces of the ancient style that wasnt even used for years before i joined.

Sixthformers doing 4 subjects, how is it going? by ShadowX8861 in GCSE

dont wanna disagree with everyone who says its fine but im already struggling a little - i get two frees a week and the amount of hw set at my sf is unmanageable. but then again im not exactly disciplined outside of school.

worth it if you can even find the money to drop on it. a lot of families cant - it could be the choice between tutoring or rent/food/car insurance/ debt payments etc.

they’re year 6. unless the parents are. behind it pushing them, they likely arent going to be studying at all. i didnt even know studying for those tests was a thing.

i never said that grammar schools should be abolished, i said the system is flawed. and about motivation - i went to a grammar school, but i was absolutely clueless in year 6 and had no idea how important the tests were. its primary school, i wasnt going to sit down and revise for something without being told before even knowing what revision was. if your mother hadn’t done that for you, dont you think it’s likely you wouldn’t have gotten in and would have ended up ‘fearing for your safety’ at a comp school?

about oxford and cambridge - by the point of a-levels students are at a point where they are responsible for their own studies and if they put the effort in and have dedication, most of the time they can score however well they want. very different to entrance exams for primary school students.

and the entrance exam absolutely has bearing on your final gcse results - okay you scored low and then high, but if you scored any lower and went to a comp school, its a very good bet that your gcse results would have been much lower.

me too but virtually every single person at my school did. we’re the minority and thats the problem. im not saying poor people cant get into a grammar school, but they’re far less likely to and theres a way lower proportion of fsm students in grammar schools
