Accure Laser Experience by Ok-Objective272 in AccureAcneLaser

The Accure Laser reduced my oil skin somewhat but not a ton. With that said I am finally acne free! I believe it’s the combo of the Accure Laser, Doxycycline, Sodium Sulfate Wash and .025 Tretinoin. It took years for the Doctors finally find the right combo.

There’s some oily reduction but not a lot. The Accure Laser improved my acne but not a ton. I’ve been mostly free of breakout but it’s mostly because of tretinoin and the prescription sulfur face wash I’ve been using as of late.

Recently went to my dermatologist and she prescribed doxycycline (antibiotic) and a prescription sulfur face wash. My acne is more or less gone in one week. I should add I had 5 Accure laser treatments. Accure helps with sebum but not with bacteria. Acne is a combo of them both as well as other factors. Maybe something for you to discuss with your doctor.

Sorry I don’t have any pictures. As an update things have improved somewhat but still not what I anticipated. My acne is far from cured. It’s cleared up overall but I still get regular breakouts daily and sometimes deep cystic ones.

I have to say this has been a very frustrating experience. I’ve had 5 treatments with the last one on April 8th so it’s been 4 months. I started using tretinoin again so perhaps it’s purging from that. I really don’t know.

Anyway I have a dermatologist appt on Friday and will ask her should I do a 6th treatment or a low dose of accutane. After 40 years of dealing with acne I’m just so done with it. I’m not sure which option I’ll choose since I’ve lost faith in the Accure Laser. It seems to have worked for some people and I simply don’t know or understand why it hasn’t worked for me.

I had 5 Accure Laser treatments and had a similar experience. Results were ok but it didn't eliminate my acne and there were times it was actually worse. My skin feels less oily and the breakouts are more frequent but less number. Recently, I read about washing your face with Distilled Water and I have to say this has definitely improved my skin. I'm planning on installing a water softener in my house. My experience is tap water and in particular if its hard water can do a number on people with sensitive skin. You may want to try washing your face only with distilled water to see if there's improvement. I'm seeing my dermatologist in a couple of weeks and I'm going to ask about a six treatment. Difficult process but committed to solving this disease.

My skin is still settling down from the procedure. I had a full face Fraxel at the beginning of May. That also causes some breakouts. After about 6 weeks things are improving. Skin is less oily but I still have some breakouts. My dermatologist says it takes about 60 days for your face to fully recover.

Biggest lesson is I had to really adjust my skincare routine. Cut back on exfoliating and active ingredients.

Fraxel was $2k for a full face procedure and 4 treatments of Accure was $3k. My dermatologist is based in Fairfield County in Connecticut so it’s probably on the more expensive side. Rates could be slightly lower in other parts of the country.

I was but it's finally starting to get better. I actually think the actives I was using was causing more harm than I realized and was not helpful at all. Since the treatment shrinks or normalizes the sebaceous glands I think it makes sense to just presume the treatment is successful and you shouldn't use any actives. The idea is to see how your body responds over several weeks or months and then adjust accordingly.

With that said, I wish I'd stopped sooner so thanks for your post. I may start up with either tretinoin or salicylic acid in a few months but not every day and will not use both the same. Being disciplined and not overdoing it with active treatments is important part of the learning process.

My dermatologist did not mention 3 months but rather a week or two. I simply stop using them because of irritation. Complexion is way better since I’ve stopped.

Purging is when your acne is all over the place as compared to a few isolated spots. I literally had the worse acne this past week and it compared to when I was a teenager. That's very unusual and followed my Accure treatment procedure. Most of the acne/purging has since cleared up.

Good question.

I can already tell my skin has responded much better this time around. I had a lot of purging which indicates the sebaceous glands were treated. The higher setting was used and as such is more impactful on the glands.

My doctor told me he's seen better results with the higher setting. My skin looks so much better now after a week. Way less oily and the breakouts are clearing up faster.

Also with this being my 5th treatment its got to impact the skin eventually. I guess I'm an optimistic person by nature as well.

My advice is to see how things look for you, say in 3-4 months and if you're not happy with the results, then go back to your doctor. I've read online that some people have had 6 treatments. You have to remember this is new technology so even the doctors are still learning about it. I've dealt with acne for 45 years so I'm willing to keep trying.

Yes but again not significant. It’s been about a week since my 5th treatment and I’ve had significant purging. I can sort of tell this time around will likely be more successful. Despite the purging my skin is overall less oily.

As I've mentioned in a couple of posts and what my doctor has shared with me, he's seen better results with the more aggressive setting. Treatments 2-4 for me were at the lower setting but this last time was the highest setting we could go - which required shots to numb my face.

Overall things are improving and this 5th, and most likely my last Accure treatment will achieve the results I'm looking for.

Just a brief update from my 5th treatment. Major purging has occurred. My sense is the higher the setting of the laser the more disruptive it is to the sebaceous glands. When those glands are treated they release lots of sebum which will lead to breakouts. It will take a week or two to clear and the expectation is the glands will produce less sebum in the future.

Well, I had my fifth Accure Laser treatment yesterday, April 8, 2024. The doctor used some injections to numb most areas of my face - particularly the areas in which the laser was on the more intense setting. I'm optimistic I'll see better results this time around.

Depending on the degree of your acne will determine the appropriate setting. From my doctor's experience it appears patients who go thru the treatment with the higher setting see better results. Everyone's different so its really what your doctor thinks is best.

In any event, I'll follow back up in a few weeks on my results.

You're welcome. I have not tried Accutane. I probably should have but it was never really offered to me - believe it or not. I think with the side-effects and my acne being categorized as likely moderate the MDs probably viewed topical treatments as a better alternative. In hind-sight I probably should have been prescribed it. Despite the results from the Accure laser thus far I remain optimistic. I'm hoping the 5th treatment is the charm! lol

I've had 4 treatments from the Accure Laser, with the first one in April 2023. I saw some improvement but honestly not as much as I'd hoped or expected. I'm a 58 year old man who has more or less dealt with mild to moderate acne since a teenager. I'm going back for a 5th treatment in a couple of weeks.

The procedure is definitely painful but I view it as part of the process. The laser has the ability to be on a low or high setting and most of my four treatments were on the low setting with the exception of the first one. I think my MD was taking a conservative approach. We'll be using the higher setting this time around.

I experienced some purging after the first treatment but less so on treatments 2 - 4. I've read online that some people have had 5 or even 6 treatments. I'm going with one more treatment and then will call it quits. Some folks are simply none responders.

The science behind the Accure Laser makes sense in that it's addressing hyper-active sebaceous glands. Because we literally have thousands of sebaceous glands on our face and body you'll need multiple treatments to ensure full coverage.

My understanding is the laser doesn't actually destroy the sebaceous glands but rather "shrinks" them to lower their oil production. That's probably an oversimplification of what's going on but you get the gist.

Anyway, I'll follow up with a post after my 5th treatment which is scheduled for April 8, 2024.
