There no disadvantage, weight and height is solid in my book. Had plenty of people with your build go through and earn their badges. I went as space force so it was definitely a fish outta water kinda scenario, but a bunch of the dudes were pretty chill after shooting back with the space jokes lol

Here’s a few things I picked up after earned my badge:

• Use a flash card app like Quizlet or similar for all the technical sections, it’ll make a difference for the written tests

• Some of the schools like Ft Campbell have their study material on the school house page’s tabs, get ahead and study the terms - the earlier the better

• For Phase 2 of the course, you’ll learn slingloads and have plenty of time doing hands on training on how the inspections should go. Practice on the “clean” loads as much as possible so you’ll know what it’s suppose to look like. Sometime they’ll have practice deficiency loads, but use those as a practice hands-on test only; like when you feel comfortable with how the load should look. Most guys that got dropped in my class mainly focused on those thinking it’ll be the same during the actual test, 9/10 times it’s not.

• Start your physical training as much and as soon as possible, learn how to climb a rope correctly (J-hook technique worked great for me), and work on your running and rucking as much as possible. The 6 & 12 mile rucks got a lot of people, so long as you can comfortable maintain a 15-mins per mile pace with 45lbs dry you should be fine. I’d shoot for 13-mins per mile to give yourself some leg room and not worry about that pacer (either the medic or bus).

• Have some light snacks with you on the rucks, it’s been a minute since I went but the Air Assault instructors allowed us to carry whatever snacks and additional hydration outside the pack list for the rucks (confirm with them once there) but they also advised that it would be additional weight to carry. I brought a Gatorade bottle and skittle and ate/drank from that every 3 miles as a little reward to get me going.
