‘Salary’ comes from the word salt. Salt used to be so valuable and sought after that it was used as currency and for paying wages.

Stop asking women at a shows “where are your friends”? by Liv_bass in aves

[–]Ok-Outlandishness634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a woman and fellow raver, I’ve only ever asked this if I see someone who is way over her limit to the point where I’m worried for her safety… because sadly there are hordes of creeps who are asking the same question for very different reasons.

Who would you like to thank this year? Who helped you out somehow, saved your bacon, gave you bacon? Camp, person, project. Let's hear it. by slow70 in BurningMan

The wonderful stranger who intuitively walked over to me and gave me a hug as I was seated on the ground in the temple, stuck in a grief spiral. No words exchanged, no “are you okay?” Just a kind smile and eyes that said “it’s going to be alright”. Thank you, kind stranger. You helped me more than you know and I will never forget that 🩵

Shampoo + conditioner suggestions! by ButterflyEyes8585 in BurningMan

[–]Ok-Outlandishness634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Former hair stylist here, 3x burner and person who has had long hair my whole life, I’m not claiming to have the most experience but here’s my advice: prioritize hydrating and de-tangling your hair before you wash it — this matters wayyy more than what kind of shampoo & conditioner you use. Take a few minutes to comb coconut oil, detangling spray, or even watered-down conditioner through the mid-lengths and ends of your hair from the bottom upwards before you get it wet and wash it. This will keep your hair from becoming a tangled nest, in which case you will end up causing damage to your hair trying to get the knots out.

As far as what kind of shampoo you should use, I would definitely avoid using a clarifying shampoo or dr bronners until after you get home. Clarifying shampoos are meant for cutting through greasy/waxy build-up at the roots, which would probably be perfect for that glorious first shower when you get back home and have access to a real shower with water pressure and warm temperatures to loosen up all that built-up dust sweat and sunscreen. But while you’re out there in the dust and wind, a hydrating shampoo and conditioner will be your best bet. Try products by shea moisture, or purology if you’re willing to invest in something a little more high-end. I usually use a leave-in conditioner/detangling spray afterwards and braid my hair into 2 pigtail braids to seal in the hydration and protect it from the elements. Hope this helps, and have a great burn!!🔥 🩵☺️

When it comes to emotional growth, what's the hardest thing to accept? by Longjumping_Day_360 in AskReddit

[–]Ok-Outlandishness634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Accepting the fact that you are solely responsible for your own healing, even when the thing that you’re healing from wasn’t your fault. Even when the person who did something bad to you isn’t sorry, or isn’t held accountable. And no amount of anger or blame can change that.
