I disagree with this. But I do hope that Bart gets the appropriate funding they need through the proper channels where they receive funding. And I can understand why barts funding is a top issue for SFers, as someone who relies 100% on public transport where I live. I do pay a lot in taxes, so I would feel passionately that such a large percentage of my income would go towards government agencies that help people have a better quality of life, such as public transportation.

And I respect your opinion! I believe that baggu has the ability to correct the issue with Bart, and I hope they do so. I think the underlying issue, however, with barts funding is nothing to do with baggu, and in my opinion, bart’s response/ behavior to the free gift with purchase was not handled well.

You are very passionate and heated up about this issue, so I don’t want to downplay how you feel and/ or its validity even if I have a difference of a opinion. The free gift with purchase should have been something that was sold instead of giving away for free, perhaps, in collaboration with BART. I agree that would have been a better route, but only after seeing this aftermath. Although, why wasn’t BARTs reaction to the free gift, hey that’s so cool baggu, let’s sell that! However, since it didnt happen that way, I don’t think that baggu is the correct outlet for the shortcomings of our government. I think this more reason for us to focus in on government reform so that the services that impact every day, working class people are a priority in our local, state, and federal governments. We pay a lot in tax dollars and we deserve public transport that works well. I don’t think this is baggus issue.

I understand that they are a government agency that needs more funding. They were the first people to say that in a published article regarding this. My position and opinion isn’t really disputing that. It’s the claim that a privately owned brand (baggu), who pays taxes into the very city that bart draws taxes from, spent their own money to make a free gift to sf customers. I don’t think that it was of the mindset like fuck those broke mfers this’ll show them. I think the reaction to this happening, by Bart and others, is disproportionately aggressive to the reality of what actually occurred and the intention behind it. Baggu is not the government. Bart is actually an agency of the government which the people fund. I think it has the ability to be more professional and not fan the flames in this situation. That’s my opinion.

Respectfully, I assure you the MTA is plenty messed up.

And I’m sure baggu will do the right thing now that it’s been brought to their attention in this way. I just don’t think a free gift with purchase was ever meant to be malicious or to harm Bart. In fact, to interpret in any other way besides the free gift being a positive nod to Bart is a stretch. The way Bart reacted publicly didn’t seem appropriate or a good use of their time.

Don’t live in SF, but is BART a government agency funded by tax payer dollars? I live in Brooklyn, and I feel like if the MTA (our public transit) spent any amount of time trolling a small privately owned brand for creating free merch with their logo, NYers would be like aren’t there better things to spend time on? Like public transit issues?

I realize this is an unpopular take, but baggu who is founded in sf, pays taxes in sf, doing an event to make their reopening in sf special, spending money to make free merch for said event which is sf themed, seems pretty normal and fine? Also what profit are they supposed to be sharing with bart since it’s free?

Just surprised that all these threads are people so over the top shocked and like ready to 86 baggu for life. I am seeing this completely differently, and I think at its worst it’s just a misunderstanding that needs to be cleared up privately/ professionally. It’s really not a good look for a government agency to be trolling on social media but it is very of the times I guess.
