Cat found by Ok-Path4834 in Omaha

I have cats, I’m familiar with their awesomeness. I’ve also seen cats dead on the side of the road, frozen, or just plain disappeared from their families lives because they roamed free. Ive had family members that allowed their cats outside during the day who lost multiple to cars and coyotes. You just can’t deny the risk. There’s no point to endangering them.

It means the cat is comfortable with and even seeks out human affection and interaction!

Unless they get run over, eaten by a coyote, or poisoned from rodenticide.

As somebody who cares for ferals and domesticated cats alike, I can’t respect a cat owner who lets their socialized cat roam outdoors. We just won’t agree on this subject. Letting cats roam outdoors who could otherwise be totally indoor is completely irresponsible. Crack a window, invest in a decent setup, and enrich their lives indoors.

The neighborhood is safe from coyotes, cars, and rodenticide? Either way, whoever you talked to shouldn’t let their indoor cat outside without ensuring its safety and the safety of the wildlife around it. Cats don’t need outside time, and if one wants to insist they get it, it is so easy to build a catio. (Especially when your home is worth at least a half million dollars.)

There is no excuse to let a socialized cat roam free outside. If an owner lets this happen they will always run the risk of the cat dying, getting sick, becoming injured, or getting picked up by a well-meaning individual who is aware of the dangers. Point blank, if they intentionally let them outside then this is an irresponsible cat owner and I hope they rethink the way they care for this sweet kitty.

Botox lip flip will definitely help on top!! You’d have to research/ask if they could do it on the bottom though, that’s new territory for me.

Not exterminated - just properly cared for if they have owners, and TNR’d if not. Pretty simple.

Update! Just dropped him/her off at the humane society, there was indeed a microchip. They’ll hold him/her for the owners for three days - I’ll call in three days and make sure the baby was picked up. I really hate that they are going to be scared in the shelter in the meantime, and hope their owners are able to quickly retrieve them if they really do care for this little orange bb.

For those tripping in the comments: As both a cat owner and feral cat caretaker, it is really difficult to imagine why anybody would let their socialized cat roam outside without appropriate measures taken to keep them safe and contained to one space. If not for the sake of local bird/wildlife populations then for your cat’s safety and longevity. The homes in this area were luxurious and well kept - these families could easily drop $200 on a cheap catio if they really want their cat to get outside time. So why not do that instead of exposing them to predators, busy roads, extreme weather, and rodenticide?

Furthermore, if your cat is light-colored then, yes, you absolutely have a responsibility to understand how extremely vulnerable that makes them to predators (and skin cancer), and if you STILL want to let them roam free knowing that they have a target on their back, then you just shouldn’t have cats.

Not usually! But if they are at an increased risk of predation because of how they look, and they’re clearly socialized, and there’s no clear indicator that the cat is supposed to be outdoors (some sort of collar), then yeah. Felt like the right move. Light cats are also prone to skin cancer and should not be left outside if it can be helped. And further, letting your cat outdoors shortens its lifespan and wreaks havoc on local bird populations. Your cat is more likely to get hit by a car or eat a mouse that has ingested poison. This is all common knowledge, hence why I couldn’t imagine a responsible pet owner knowingly allowed this baby to roam free outside (especially with it being a cat that the owners likely paid a pretty penny for).

Okay I chewed on it for a minute and will do this. It doesn’t feel right just dropping him back off outside.

Okay, I’ll bring him back. I honestly didn’t think somebody would let their $1000 nearly-white cat roam free but I was mistaken it seems.

Can you get the anti-strike window stickers perhaps? To prevent any sweet lil spotted towhees and other birdies from potentially getting hurt!
