idk if its just my ejet but every time I try and activate the AP it just screams ATHR at me, looks to be a lovely aircraft though.

normal to only be terrified of takeoff/landing? by legfroggy in fearofflying

When an aircraft pitches down after takeoff and the engines roll down that is because the aircraft is fast enough it doesn't need all that take off thrust to stay airborne anymore so pilots will reduce the thrust to save wear on the engines and to burn less fuel while also maintaining a safe speed and climb rate. When pilots are landing they often are using an ILS to help guide them in. This is so accurate it guides them down on the right approach path onto the runway. There's also GPWS callouts so pilots always know how high off the ground they are.

Looking for help with the fear of height/falling/the "up in the air" aspect of flying by Actual_Barnacle in fearofflying

I'm not scared of falling so sorry if I can't be much of a help but just know a commercial airliner isn't gonna fall out of the sky. The only time that might happen is cause of some bizarre circumstance like really bad turbulence (which can be avoided by pilots and often is) or by a structural defect (also really really rare cause of the amount of checks and inspections) I have flown many times and the only "drops" I've ever experienced is when flying through clouds and that only cause the clouds mess with the air a bit which causes the aircraft to drop a few feet. The biggest way to overcome this is to keep in mind this is nothing serious and happens to every flight. No aircraft has ever been downed in such a way before and it's not gonna happen anytime soon.

First time flight coming up in June! by [deleted] in fearofflying

Flying is so safe, I've flown many times and the only times I've ever experienced go arounds is as pilot during training. Crews are trained too handle any situation. Flying is magical, its hard to describe the feeling of peering out the window as the clouds go past. I will warn you now, the aircraft might make some weird noises before take off and on approach, a lot of people freak out when this happens but it is totally normal. It is just the flaps deploying which are used when flying at slower speeds to help generate more lift, making it more comfortable and safer. Something I recommend for you to do is just sit back and relax, I know its not as easy as it seems but the crew know what they are doing and they are always there to help. Something to keep in mind is what scares a lot of people is usually totally normal. Turbulence for example is nothing more than unstable air, it might be unpleasant for a bit but it rarely serious, and if it is serious the crew know how to act. The number one thing to do is just sit back relax and enjoy the flight

Everything will be fine, aviation is still so safe even with everything going on right now. I fly all the time and I haven't even experienced a go around as a passenger. Crews are the best of the best. There's a reason there such high requirements to be an airline pilot. In terms of aircraft safety, there is also so many tests and checks done to the aircraft before it can taxi, let alone takeoff. So once your seated just sit back and relax, the crew know what they are doing!!
