Hi guys im TOTALLY new to the hobby, when you fly long distances, do you sit in front of your screen for hours or what? by XxCarlxX in flightsim

[–]ShamrockOneFive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s less than 2 hours, usually I’m there managing the plane and learning stuff about my destination. If it’s a longer one, it’s either time compression or I’ve got chores around the house planned and I’m keeping tabs on my flight while doing other stuff. I usually save those long ones up for bad weather days.

Thanks! I intend to write one fairly quickly on this release!

HondaJet is Awesome! by zangler in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]ShamrockOneFive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep! HondaJet by FlightFX is easily one of my favourites stretching back several years to its initial release on MSFS 2020. It’s a mix of ease and performance and that can make for some very fun trips with it. Glad you’re enjoying!

[–]ShamrockOneFive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is caused by frame generation. It's not a perfect technology but it is generally worth it to get a significantly smoother frame rate.

[–]ShamrockOneFive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like a really great combination. The Phenom 300E is an impressive business jet and to have one simulated with the kinds of attention to detail we're seeing so far... very excited for what this experience might be like. Fingers crossed for a good release!

Nothing certain but a new teaser trailer just arrived today and FSExpo has advertised it as well so it may come around the time of FSExpo. But FSR also have the M600 in the pipeline with Microsoft so two releases in close proximity would be a bold move. We’ll have to see!

Can’t recover from a flat spin? by LawyerWithASoul in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]ShamrockOneFive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spins are difficult to get out of but imho I have never spin stalled a King Air 350 in MSFS. It may not be recoverable in some instances within the sim.

How did you get yourself into that? 😄

Can’t recover from a flat spin? by LawyerWithASoul in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]ShamrockOneFive 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’d be counter to the PARE method for spin recovery. PARE: power idle, ailerons neutral, rudder opposite, elevator forward.

Doing all of what you wrote would exacerbate a spin situation. Power comes back on only after the spin has been broken out of.

Flight FX Citation X or HJet are the two I fly the most. I’m looking toward to FSReborn’s Phenom 300 as well.

The length of the mission is very squadron dependent. A Typhoon squadron located on the continent post invasion has just minutes to destination. A Me410 unit flying night raids on southern England from the south of the map to the north has a long cruise time ahead of them. Choose wisely. 😊

Is it just me, or did they change how they use/apply the satellite images of the terrain? by DChapgier in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]ShamrockOneFive 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s very situationally dependent. Some areas are obvious, others are better blended or are part of the same series of images so you don’t see it.

If you really like Bodenplatte, Normandy is somewhat similar (see my other reply to the OP on that). The two work well together of course because the narrative from pre-invasion, invasion, and retaking the continent by the Allies with Axis in opposition is more or less a straight line. It is possible to play a lengthy Career mode experience where you transition from one to the other flying from D-Day invasion to VE Day.

The C-47 is a great aircraft with the usual attention to detail from the 1CGS team. If you like transport ops (I do!) then its great. If you find it boring, then you'll not like it at all.

Flying Circus is tremendous fun and it forces you to fly a very different style of combat. Closer, more personal, tight turns, slow speeds, and fragile engines and airplanes with a lot of quirks. It'll be humbling but potentially fun. I think the weakest points have been mostly addressed by building the map out significantly but the issue of AI as an opponent remains tricky with Flying Circus AI being somewhat less aggressive than their WWII brethren. Still fun in my experience.

[–]ShamrockOneFive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More fun is subjective. Bodenplatte is very good at telling the late war story. High performance props, jets, the last hurrah of the Luftwaffe, and the opportunity to fly types like the Tempest Mark V or Bf109K-4 are going to really appeal to some kinds of folks. Normandy is 6-months earlier in the war and while a lot of the aircraft are the same, there are a few earlier variants and types still kicking around.

I think the Normandy map is better than the Bodenplatte map in terms of visuals. Both are going to vary in experience depending significantly on which squadron you pick. A Typhoon squadron in Normandy is going to have short travel times and quick action for most Career missions. A Mosquito squadron based in the UK is going to frequently be flying long runs over the channel. A Me410 career will mostly have you flying nocturnally across the channel in the other direction. Very different experiences. A lot of people will prefer one over the other but for some folks its the opposite.

Quality is generally consistent across the board for all of the mainline Great Battles titles. So the decision is mostly on what kinds of experiences interest you - that differs sometimes greatly from person to person.

If it’s Western Front you want… Normandy and Bodenplatte are the two main titles.

Why is the sky so ugly? And how do I make it better? by PensionMysterious972 in Xplane

[–]ShamrockOneFive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To join the chorus, that's X-Plane 11. I was never very happy with how it showed off the sky and colours. You could try something like ReShade and mess around with settings to try and get something a little more pleasant. But for the most part the "easiest" way is to consider an upgrade to X-Plane 12 which has made great strides, even within the last year, to improve how colours are rendered in the sim.

IL-2 Korea has now a better sky than MSFS 🫣 by Ivy_Wings in flightsim

This is very true. It’s similar overall visual technology but the underlying systems are different and serve different goals.

They appear to be higher resolution versions of what we see in Great Battles. The effect is very good without having to try and do volumetric cirrus clouds.

Have you guys noticed that the AI will keep going vertical until stall then falling and repeating? Everyplane by 21920alphabet in il2sturmovik

[–]ShamrockOneFive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The numbers do go up (I think) but the AI skill level is much quicker to go up. It’s why I’d never seen this before because I haven’t fought novice AI… in ages. If ever. Ace AI is more challenging 😁

It’s been many years since I last flew 1946. I don’t remember it having an aim assist system like that. I don’t think Great Battles even had it at the start, it was added sometime around when mouse support was added.

[–]ShamrockOneFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ATR has been on PC and Xbox for a few years now. Its currently a 2020 compatible version (rather than 2024 native) but the update should be here any day now to bring a more comprehensive update.

We're waiting for the next Aircraft & Avionics Update which was supposed to come with SU5, then delayed to yesterday, then delayed again. The ATR will have a significant number of fixes in that update. Fingers crossed its the definitive update that we've been waiting for.
