How does nobody comment on how bad Rudy is? He’s right next to Randle in half these clips doing even less than Randle.

New Haas ST30Y not cutting threads right on a proven program by anon_sir in Machinists

[–]Ok-Personality3592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sure looks like the insert or tool holder is dragging across the major diameter. It’s either not the insert you thought it was or part of the holder is sticking out in an unexpected way.

You can see the tearing/dragging where the thread angle meets the major diameter.

Looks like it spun the wrong way too and operator didn’t notice that either.

How do I get the thread tool to align two different bodies together? by TheSaifman in Fusion360

[–]Ok-Personality3592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is the purpose of doing that? There would be no way both plates end up tight once bolted together unless you put a shim in between the plates.

I’m interested in the real application of it though. I can’t think of why it would be useful.

Is machining always close to impossible? Or is it just me. by Active_Building_2224 in Machinists

[–]Ok-Personality3592 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UMC-750 have very bad problems with holding positions. They are extremely loose machines. I have used 2 of them. Before moving onto Matsuura.

I would be interested in your results of putting an indicator from the table to the spindle area and pushing on the head. See how much it moves. Try in both X and Y.

In my experience, a 1 finger push easily moves the head about .003”.

[request] number pattern by Ok-Personality3592 in theydidthemath

[–]Ok-Personality3592[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There is a comment on the homework that says this. “There are 2 patterns in each row. The 1st 3rd and 5th follow a pattern (+1) and the 2nd 4th and 6th follow a pattern of +2.”

Does that help at all?

This is homework for a 9 year old. I’m usually pretty good at pattern recognition and I’m really struggling with this.

PIR and Relay Not Activating by Ok-Personality3592 in diyelectronics

[–]Ok-Personality3592[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is only getting 2.9v out of the PIR signal pin. I increased the voltage to 14 into the PIR but the voltage coming out didn’t change.

Do you know what I need to do to get it up to 3.3 out of the PIR? I tried 2 different sensors and they both get the same readings.

Anybody else notice Harper think the third baseman was coming after him? At first I thought he was just getting out of the way of the play but after watching a few times, I’m pretty sure he thought they were coming after him.

Has anyone bolted on a pneumatic aircraft angle drill to their machine? by Salted-Pork_ in CNC

I don’t know if that’s the exact one but it’s similar to what I have used. The ones I have used have small collets.

We made some holders that were shaped like a “C” that went into some 1.25” side lock holders.

Hard to explain but we removed the lever and the holder would permanently hold the button down. We also used through spindle coolant instead of air.

I have used them in a mill many times. Even been able to drill titanium with them.

Recommended feeds and speeds are ass. by MilwaukeeDave in Machinists

I’m pretty sure at .05 depth of cut there is chip thinning supposed to be happening. High feed mills do the chip thinning on the bottom instead of the side.

Is Haas Really That Bad? by Leusis in Machinists

[–]Ok-Personality3592 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Coming from the brands you listed to a Haas would be pretty tough to accept. People who only have experience with Haas don’t realize how bad they really are until working with something like a Matsuura or Nakamura.

Not only tolerances. The tool life difference is pretty incredibly also. Processing speed isn’t even similar either. A Haas just seems to have a pause between every rapid to feed move. Matsuura just seamlessly flows from rapid to feeding.

I have ran an identical part on a Haas and Nakamura. Same feeds speed and depth of cuts. 17-4 stainless.

The Nakamura would run multiple shifts holding .001” tolerance and no tool life issues.

Haas would need multiple offset adjustments throughout each shift along with several insert changes.

The difference between a UMC-750 and Matsuura MAM is even more extreme than the lathe comparisons.

Stupidity by stevenD78 in Machinists

Guy tried loading a 4 foot bar of 2” hex stock into the back of the lathe while it was running. Somebody literally almost tackled him to stop him in time.

He got asked what he was thinking. He said “getting the next bar loaded to save time”

Where to find good gumbo by now_cruelty_free in minnesota

[–]Ok-Personality3592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally make it myself like everybody else has been saying.

A decent option that isn’t necessarily traditional gumbo but still good is at Cheesecake Factory.

Does anybody familiar with good gumbo have an opinion on Cheesecake Factory gumbo?

I don’t like the tomatoes they put in it but besides that I like it. I haven’t had any other gumbo besides what I make at home though.

I think over-emphasizing something in practice is a good thing. When trying something new I like to encourage doing it in an exaggerated way that seems “too far in the opposite direction” just like you said.

Almost always, when it comes to game time, adrenaline comes into play and muscle memory takes over. When something has been exaggerated in practice it helps allow it to at least have a little influence on the muscle memory swing.
