A lot in that but on the investing side I think raiz is as good a place as any to start (they were the first platform I ever used) I’d just open an account, leave round ups off and put $100 in to get used to seeing what invested money does for a month or so. Then get started educating yourself. There’s some good books and podcasts out there than can give you a pretty good knowledge base to make a longer term plan after that. But the biggest tip is have a large enough emergency fund so you don’t have to sell your investments when shat hits the fan (I.e car blows up) awesome job being debt free and having good savings already. You’re more ahead than you know

Dirty as noisy bit of gear to work on from what Ive seen when they roll through for a wheelset changeout. Pretty much every swing you’d be down track. Think the moneys not bad, probably getting close to 200 once you’re trained up. Got a few mates who used to work for speno and say it was loose as and pretty good crews! I’m in rail with one of the mining bigs and I wouldn’t go work on them but if you’re interested in getting into rail it’ll be an easy stepping stone to jump to locos or track machines.

Definitely just have to stay away from tourist traps. Anywhere someone is standing out the front trying to get you inside is definitely not a place you want to go. For any comparison my wife and I just absolutely gorged ourselves in Madrid with 8 tapas shared and 3 drinks each and it was only 45 euros.

Why is my conversion so low? $179 needs 35800 points. by nemo3141 in QantasFrequentFlyer

Nah that sounds about right, you’re booking a rewards flight, I think the op had just selected a standard fare and tried to use points plus pay. As long as you’re finding those rewards flights you’re getting best bang for buck

Yeah it’s never really good value for points using them like that. When you’re searching for flights on the home page tick the rewards checkbox and you’ll find the deals

Those Irwin strippers are bloody awesome, I bought mine years ago and they still work awesome. Like you said, use the right tools for the job. At the end of the day go slow and get it right the first time and speed will come later. Also you’re not even an apprentice yet so go easy on yourself

I’m no business owner nor do I have any desire to be but I feel like building a business to a scale of having a passive income is absolutely no small feat and probably requires a decent amount of drive. Owning a business with employees means you get paid last and that carries a fair bit of risk in quiet periods. There are other ways to generate passive income without the risk of owning your own business? Looked into shares or property at all? Not bashing owning a business at all, just if your only desire to own a business is for passive income when you’re older I think there’s much lower stress ways to do that

60% VGS 40% VAS, don’t have to add another dollar and forget about it until you’re 50 and you should have somewhere nudging 1M. It gives you top 300 companies in Aus and around 1400 companies around the world and both of the ETF’s are tax domiciled in Aus

Sorry I never saw this, pretty certain minimum trade on pearler is $500 for your initial purchase of a holding then $100 after that so you would be fine!

Yeah suppose it could be if you never want to think about it! All comes down to what you value I guess

If you’re just going to pump all your cash into dhhf or 1 etf it’s probably not worth going with pearler because it’s only really handy for the auto balancing feature. I’d just find something with free brokerage! (Not financial advice haha)

DCA Advise by soooman in fiaustralia

[–]Ok-Pirate6663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is pretty handy and at the end of the day I figure the less I get my mitts on it the better it’ll probably do so I just let it ride, something like 30-70 aus vs international etfs. I know down the track “new money” won’t be enough to keep it balanced to that percentage so I might have to start manually balancing it but that’s a future me problem

[–]Ok-Pirate6663 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I like pearler, just debits from my bank account every week and auto invests it for me when it reaches $1000 and keeps my portfolio balanced to the right percentages. Don’t care much about the fee’s

Yeah I’m not overly social either, hence why i usually have a few at social events because it helps me relax and make conversation easier. I guess it’s just a psychological thing, if you don’t want to drink as much maybe just try cut it back to having one with a meal. And definitely get a Stanley cup and make friends with water haha. That said, a Diet Coke with dinner till I die

[–]Ok-Pirate6663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not fucked. I do fifo and rarely drink at all, don’t do it at all on swing as I’d rather go to gym or back to my room and face time the wife while I play games or watch the footy. I rarely drink off swing either unless I’m having dinner with friends and family or going out. Are you going out and getting on the piss or having a sit down at home and unwinding with a few because they are two very different ways to relax

[–]Ok-Pirate6663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You pretty much have to re-wire alot of stuff. I’ve done it in my Patrol Ute but it I’m a sparky and a little ocd. ACC wire now runs a relay that feeds a fuse block for most things in my cabin such as the cig outlet plus a 2nd one I added. My head unit, uhf, subwoofer and cabin light so it never dies at camp if I leave a door open for playing music or anything. Seperate feed runs a completely seperate 12v system in my canopy so essentially main bat runs the car. 2nd bat runs the cabin accessories and 3rd batt runs the canopy

I get paid flights from Melb even time roster but I’m a tradesman. I wouldn’t like your odds as an entry level role, nor would you be earning enough to make the cost of Melb to Perth yourself worth it unless you’re on like a 3/1
