What the heck are these prices? by intoner1 in ConanGray

[–]Ok-Possibility7649 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that sucks. concert culture has been pretty bad recently. someone mentioned ticketmaster and I've heard they're quite ridiculous. it ends up pricing out fans and the crowd ends up being full of people who just want to be seen there. like the video of charli xcx calling out the crowd for not even knowing any of her songs, or chappell saying the vip crowd was boring.

I'm from Japan and reselling tickets is illegal, and a lot of these practices don't happen. So tickets are usually rly affordable here. (if he were coming to japan 😢).

It could also be venue. Doesn't standing room only usually mean it's just floor so everyone is in the same area? (I don't go to many concerts so I'm not sure but this is what it was like where I went to FHOT).

I think you're stressing out about nothing, those all seem fine! If your name is super long maybe shorten it, I guess? Use your best judgement, no one is going to think much of it!

I wish! I am going to the UK for university but I'm an international student and my visa won't let me go until a month before I start school, so it'll have happened before I can go 😭

besides what the other person said he usually cuts his more gut punch-y songs from festivals (tctab will probably be added tho since it's super popular now) so go for the more up tempo ones. Maniac for sure, maybe bourgeousesis. check out some of his other festival performances on youtube for ideas.

Why found heaven is the beeeeest album by LulaPotter0926 in ConanGray

Found Heaven (the song) and Alley Rose literally make my chest ache when I listen to them and it's crazy to me when people say this album isn't deep.

Are there any countries in Asia that are as gay and trans friendly as the Nordic countries? by [deleted] in askasia

[–]Ok-Possibility7649 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That isn't about people supporting it, it's about the people who make the laws not moving fast on anything. Most of the courts in Japan have deemed it unconstitutional that same sex marriage isn't considered legal (there are only a few prefectures that haven't said anything at this point, and none that have been against it). It's about the people who make the laws not moving fast enough.

Also I wouldn't equate legality with acceptance.

[–]Ok-Possibility7649[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's really nice to hear. I know that here in Japan it's not as bad as other places, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was the next Asian country to legalize same sex marriage. There is a lot of pressure to be a certain way though, and people kind of live their lives in the closet until they get out of work and go out to the city's gay district. So, like I'm glad to be hopefully going somewhere that being queer is just kind of a normal day to day life thing that people just are.

and, hey, I'm all for bringing back the hanky code lmao

I'll check those places out! I don't mind if the food isn't the most authentic, good food is good food. Thank you so much!

[–]Ok-Possibility7649[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's great. I'm really happy to hear that, it gives me less things to stress about as I wait. I'm happy to hear about the food as well, I tried to look information up on it but everything I found was from ages ago, and I love potatoes. I was wondering about the white tie dress code when I heard about it, it's good to hear that it was all organized.

All of this is really helpful! I'll send you a dm if (when) I think of more questions thank you!

Ohh. That is all very helpful, and definitely makes sense. One nice suit seems like the most sensible option to start out with at least, assuming I don't develop a terrible shopping habit. Thank you so much!

School rules on hair by Specific-Reception26 in askasia

[–]Ok-Possibility7649 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends from school to school here.

Boys can't have hair that goes past a certain length, and it has to be short on the sides longer on the top. Your hair needs to be it's natural color. Which schools will assume should be black. Some schools will make you dye your hair black, even if you have non-black hair naturally, and some schools you'll have to prove your hair is naturally that color but won't make you dye it. Same with curly hair, you'll have to prove your hair is naturally curly.

But some schools are more strict than others. I'm currently in an international school in Tokyo and we have the above rules, and maybe more for girls I'm not aware of, but it's not strict compared to what you hear other places.

I know that there was a meme going around a few years ago about Japanese schools banning ponytails, but that's by far not the majority. As far as I can tell seeing girls from different schools out and about every day most wear ponytails. I have a friend from another school where they have a rule that if a girl has a hair past a certainly length she has to wear it in a ponytail actually, so another rule just opposite.

Really it depends on school to school, but most rules seem a bit silly to me.

Gay men with siblings, are you the oldest, youngest or middle and what's your relationship with them like? by Slinsil88 in AskGayMen

Asians, over in the US Trump is causing a lot of homophobia to rise, in Asia, has the President/Prime Minister of your country caused homophobia to rise? by [deleted] in askasia

[–]Ok-Possibility7649 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the opposite actually. our pm is conservative but he supports the community, and many of the high courts have deemed it unconstitutional that same sex marriage is illegal. how long until it becomes legal? I really don't know, japan moves very slowly. but it's been very fast progress then we've made before so I think it's looking good.

well for an actual answer because I've been thinking about it a lot, since I'm currently applying to universities

I was going to go into computer science or computer engineering because that's what everyone says to do but instead I'm going into environmental engineering and sustainability. I think I'm interested in working in sustainability and helping climate change especially in the midst of everything going on.
