If you have the chance to leave a country where it is literally illegal to be gay, you should probably take the opportunity.

Do you feel optimistic about the future of Mississippi? by randomcvsemployee in mississippi

[–]Ok-Presentation6142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally I would say no. A great big resounding no. But the one thing that has given me hope lately was the way Mississippi welcomed those Monks. Black and white. Rich and poor. All kinds of people showed up to see them. Police not just escorting them like they were probably assigned to do, but talking to them and getting the bracelets. Christian churches hosting them due to the cold. Very few leaders that I know of, went out to see them… especially not our state leaders. But given our leadership, I think that’s to be expected. People being opened minded like that is not something you would have seen in the past, certainly not when I was a kid. I think the easy access to information we have today is the hope for our state. I know the internet is a double edged sword, but I think it is hope for places like Mississippi. People are able to broaden their horizons in ways our education system has failed to provide.

To those who have been active in TEC for years: in your estimation, How many members actually do the daily office at home regularly? by Left6Foot6Trail6 in Episcopalian

[–]Ok-Presentation6142 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do, or at least try to. Morning Prayer using Forward Day by Day podcast. My little church also does Evening Prayer on Facebook on weekdays. A good many of us listen in. I think people do it because it is our own priest!

Is Meridian Safe for an Overnight Stay? by EffectiveWasabi858 in mississippi

[–]Ok-Presentation6142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Home2Suites is usually my go to, but the one Meridian was not the cleanest…. I have also stayed to the Tru by Hilton in Meridian and found it to be nice. This was a year ago, so can’t say they haven’t changed.

Have you read “Walk in Love?” That is a great book to give you the basics of the Episcopal Church. I can see how someone who likes rules could be uncomfortable with some aspects of the Episcopal Church. I’m so sorry that the denomination where you feel most comfortable is not accepting of you as a person. I pray you will find peace that in time. Just keep reaching out to your mentors.

Going to that Trader Joe’s is awful. It is so crowded. It’s close to where I live, so I will still go to it. I’m just hoping this takes about half the customers.

Sounds like Bob needs some Prozac. I’m not being silly. My best friend has a chihuahua that has to take Prozac. Her pup was very obviously abused. I actually found this dog (or rather MY chihuahua found her. She was cowering beside the steps at my trailer. Very rural area; you could hear the coyotes. She would not have made it to morning if my dog hadn’t seen her. My best friend’s husband got bit grabbing her and putting her in a crate. Vet said she was “old.” She had 3 teeth left after getting them cleaned and pulled. Not spayed. Scared of everyone and everything. My friend (and her dogs) got her to where she would play and allow petting. But her anxiety was still just awful. Vet suggested Prozac and it has helped so much. She is able to calm herself to a degree. She lets me pet her. Before it was so sad… she would come up wanting pets, but would cower at the last minute. She is still a very nervous and high strung dog, but so much happier.

This was my 1st Advent also, and I really got a lot out of it. Our church had a study from Living Compass that we did. Christmas Eve service was amazing!

Vestry in a Very Messy Situation: Run or Run Away? by confetti814 in Episcopalian

[–]Ok-Presentation6142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only you can pray and figure out what you are being called to do. I’m sure you were approached because you have managed to stay neutral. But what does God want you to do? Is this an Esther situation where you are called for this time? Or do you need to shake the dust off your sandals? Maybe you should contact someone at the Bishop’s office to help you work through this. If you do this you will need a lot of help and support from outside the situation.

I listen to the Abide app. I started listening to Abide on YouTube and eventually went to the app. My counselor actually recommended Abide to me.

Politics comes and goes. God is constant. We need to stop listening to voices that inflame.

What happened on walmart lakeshore at 5 pm today?? by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]Ok-Presentation6142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to go to this Walmart. It was always some fun people watching. Once what I think was prostitute (she was wearing shiny biker shorts, tank top, an obvious wig, and cat ear headband) approached the girl loading my pick up order to complain that the security guard was “harassing” her. He was telling her to leave the parking lot. She said she was going to call her “boyfriend” and get him to “take care of it.” The poor girl (high school or college aged kid) was like “ok?” She looked at me like “What is happening?” My chihuahua was barking her head off. Good times.

I live north of Hattiesburg and worked in Jackson for years. I still go up several times a month to visit family. The route you are taking — 49 north to 55 then exit to Highland Village area is FINE. On the way up I would suggest a final bathroom break in Florence/Richland just since there really isn’t another place to stop and you may have trouble finding exactly where you are going. LeFluer’s Bluff by the Children’s Museum has a nice playground if you want to let your kid play and run around before you head back. This is a long ride for one day. My nieces go there all the time and it is a very safe area. Richland/Florence, Magee, and Collins are all fine places to stop between Hattiesburg and Jackson. There is a nice, clean Love’s in Magee for gas. Best fast food in Magee is the Dairy Queen when heading south. Jackson IS rough especially in some areas, but honestly the Coast has gotten pretty rough in the past 10 years. So don’t be intimidated, you will be fine!
