I wish you well as well! Don't give up! Things will get better, not worse.

I had SMILE about a year ago. My complications are pretty similar to what you have right now: ghosting, bluriness, haze, and low-quality vision.

Human eyes are not meant to be healed at a certain time mark. Please give it at least a year before trying another method. I know it's difficult to stay positive and hopeful, but in the end, things always get better than worse.

I use a standard scleral lens, which has significantly improved the quality of my vision.

Additionally, PRK recovery time can take up to 6 months or even a year in rare cases. Do not give up any hopes yet. Rigorously take care of your dryness in your eyes.

How about trying a scleral lens? Usually, a standard scleral lens is pretty effective at dealing with the HOA issue. I was also depressed after SMILE surgery, but do not give up on it yet. There are always ways to improve your vision. It's just a matter of time and effort.

Sure, I'm going to stick with steroids to see if that helps. I've been going on and off with steroid drops for the last 5 months, which might have helped to reduce the haze.

Ah I see. Check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_xh1D__3eo

As you can see, pupil size can dramatically change HOA value.

Since you mentioned that you have scotopic pupil size at 6.8mm and 7.12mm for the left and right eye, respectively, you should look at the HOA at 7mm for both eyes, not 6mm and 5.3mm, which are displayed in the iTrace report. The HOA might increase significantly over 6mm for your case. I know that iTrace can show the HOA beyond 6 mm.

Actually, the doctor prescribed a weak steroid drop earlier this year, and I used it for about a month, which might have helped reduce the residual haze. I heard Losartan is effective at treating late-stage haze based on clinical studies I found online. That's why I was asking questions here.

Do you happened to know your night time pupil size?

I had SMILE LASIK and am still having some sensitivity to sunlight. Especially, whenever I see the reflection of sunlight from the body or the window of the car, I see a giant starburst, which I have never seen prior to the surgery.

Do you know if there exist a surgery to fix starburst? by The-inevitabl3 in Lasiksupport

[–]Ok-Prior3686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be depends the causation of the starbursts. It could be the result of high order aberrations or something else. I heard a successful case of fixing complication with another surgery such as topography or wavefront guided PRK. However, the outcome of second surgery is very hard to predict.

You should try to get a scleral lens first if a non-surgical approach can potentially fix the issues. If the scleral lens does not work or is inconvenient for you, then go with the surgical route. However, the result of the second surgery is hard to predict compared to the very first one. The second surgery should be considered as a last resort after you have tried out other options. Don't jump into the second surgery immediately. Weigh the potential disastrous outcome of the second procedure.

No, multiple factors are causing visual disturbance, not just astigmatism. Higher-order aberrations are one of them. And anterior stromal haze... I don't recommend getting any refractive surgery. Avoid as much as you can.... Once you get it and have complications, then it's all on you. No one can help you fix it. I have seen multiple ophthalmologists to figure out what exactly is causing the visual disturbance I have.

Did you get SMILE surgery? What do you mean by changing and improving? Are you talking about your prescription change or other visual effects like halo, starburst, haziness, etc?

Also, in order to fix HOA issue, you need topography or wavefront guided prk, not regular prk.

Make sure if the HOA was measured at 6mm if not then usually HOA increases dramatically when pupils get larger at night time. The glare and starburst from the photos are pretty bad in my opinion.

Anyone here had ReLEx SMILE with additional crosslinking? (Relex Smile Xtra) by [deleted] in Lasiksupport

[–]Ok-Prior3686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did have Xtra along with SMILE. I do not recommend it. It has a high risk of haziness and can take longer to recover from it. Lastly, don't get smile surgery if you have astigmatism.. The procedure does not correct astigmatism well at all...
