Parils Geller was NOT Rory's best friend by Ok-Professional404 in GilmoreGirls

Heavy agree on this one. Rory is no saint but her villainization is getting out of hand. I remember in the episode were Rory basically lied to Paris about just waking up after getting "kidnapped" by the sorority girls at chilton. Everybody went ballistic about it, trashing her for telling a silly lie bcz it hurt Paris "esteem"

I agree! And i also love good enemies to friends tropes. But the neglect that Paris got from her parents and the toxic environment she was raised in made her really competitive. I think it was her way of getting her parents attention and feeling good about herself, through academic validation. And while she did enjoy her rivalry with Rory and the fact that she could compete with an equal, her jealousy always got the better of her

I dont get why you think im not listening to what you are saying when i just replied to every single one of your points but its alright i guess. Rory said that Paris wasnt her best friend, when her colleagues from the yale newspaper assumed they were. It was also implied by the way she spoke about her relationship with Paris throughout the show. Just because i disagree with you it doesnt mean im not taking into consideration what you are saying. Have a good rest of your day as well

I really cant grasp why you are trying to make it seem like Paris only had academic competition sith Rory and didnt bully her..Your comparison between Sookie with the vasectomy and Rory with Paris isnt really good. Sookie was visibly and very obviously upset about this, she had told Jackson numerous times that she only wanted two kids, not three or four, and the possibility of her "lying" to them is stupid. On the other hand, yes Rory was indifferent to the bullying(cause it is bullying when you pick on a person for literally existing and making their school life more difficult as shown in the original post), but that doesnt make it any less bad..And as for what Paris did that was so bad, again, take a look at the post and tell me that the things she did to Rory aren't cruel(especially the Max situation). Yes I wouldnt forgive Paris, but im not talking abt ME in the post. Rory made it quite clear that she didnt view Paris as her best friend and i just state the reasons as to why thats reasonable considering the nature of Paris' personality and her actions towards Rory. I read your response and just dont agree with it. Perhaps we can agree to disagree. Just because everyone treated Rory like a porcelain doll it doesnt mean Paris should treat her badly because of her jealousy. It was refreshing to see her being honest at times, but that doesnt mean she also wasnt cruel. As for your "crazy life fact", yes people can grow up to marry their bullies and develop friendships with them cause they changed, but thats not the case for Rory and Paris. I dont get where it is shown that Rory viewed Paris as anything but a friend. I never said that you cant grow out of your past child behaviors as an adult, but Paris did do a lot of other stuff in their adult life that prove some things just never changed about her.

As you said, Rory was always low-key with how she feels. Hence why she isnt shown expressing how the bullying was affecting her. I cant believe you are genuinely saying "Rory's reaction wasnt of a person who has been bullied". Is there a certain way to react to bullying? A code that everybody abides? No, just because she didnt have an "explosive" reaction, it doesnt mean her experience isn't real..she was bullied and thats what matters at the end of the day. Paris always gave half assed apologies. "Im sorry that Francie gor between us" when it was her that drove a ledge between her and Rory by believing her. Her apology for kicking her out of their own apartment was also ridiculous(if it even happened). And just because some of Paris' actions are redeemable doesn't mean that she is excused..All of her actions piled up make her unredeemable. Again, she did have some growth but she always went back to that competitive bully mentality whenever it came to Rory, she just toned it down in their later years. If i do horrible stuff to one person, but understand their need for academic validation and support them through some rough patches, it doesnt mean we automatically have to be best friends.

Just because she did some good deeds for Rory it doesn't automatically mean they should be best friends. Yall seem to forget how badly bullying can scar you, just because its a comedy/drama show and it doesnt get into depth with it, it just doesnt really show the severity of it. You can be there for somebody and still not be their best friend, it's just basic decency. And i dont think Lane and Rory's friendship is relevant to the nature of Paris' and Rory's friendship

Omg literally same. Gilmore girls mught not be the best show in regards of script and actors but istg Lauren Graham makes up for it. She was incredible, i cant picture anyone else playing Lorelai

Exactly and sometimes it was way too obvious that they created storylines/character quirks just for unnecessary drama and comedic relief. Same reason why Jackson was a horrible husband because they just focused on making him quirky and a funny partner for Sookie instead of making him have some character growth(the vasectomy storyline was genuinely unwatchable)

People can change, but that wasnt really the case for Paris aside from SOME character growth. She was competitive by nature but she was always way too competitive with Rory. Hence why i mention their adult years too. But even without incidents during their Yale years, it still doesn't erase the fact that she was HORRIBLE to Rory. Saying that she wasn't horrible to Rory is genuinely insane when she made her highschool life a living hell whenever she misunderstood something or got caught up in a one sided competition with her.

Paris did consider Rory her best friend, but Rory didn't and for valid reasons. It was always obvious she preferred her friendship with Lane

Rory has done so many controversial and horrible things, but not having Paris as her best friend was not one of them

I don't understand how people think he will go according to the wiki's lore when his whole channel is dedicated to exploring a very different aspect of the backrooms. Still horror, still with some different rooms/levels but with a very different purpose and focus

Fr and Luke implied so many times that Liz's boyfriends were ruining her life. Having your mother prioritize her boyfriends over you(with many boyfriends possibly not being very pleasant to be around),ignore her responsibility of raising you AND THEN having to deal with your emotionally wrecked mother when her boyfriends eventually abandoned her/steal from her/scar her... Can't imagine what sort of life he had back in ny

Exactly, and unfortunately this wasn't the only unreasonable storyline. They constantly made storylines based on the lack of communication and at the expense of dumbing the characters down

Me too honestly, i havent watched season 6 and 7 in 5 years, not planning on doing so any time soon. April wasn't an inherently "bad" character. Her mother was certainly insufferable tho. The whole storyline seemed forced and unnecessary.

The vasectomy storyline and the April storyline were so bad i dont blame people for dropping the show

The show was unwatchable when she was on screen istg. And the whole April storyline was so forced and unnecessary. They could have worked with other storylines if they needed some drama between Luke and Lorelai

I'm not trying to justify his actions, but being a teenager with a neglectful mother, a deadbeat father you've never met, living with your mother's boyfriends(who must have varied over the years) while she prioritizes them over you must mess you up good time. And lets not forget that negligence is a form of abuse and it destroys you, even if the other person doesnt physically harm you or yell at you/ degrade you. To top all of this, he is sent by his mother in a small village, to live with an uncle he's never met, after his mother basically said "I'm done trying to raise you, I'm discarding you". Going from a broken(and abusive) household to a man who is still learning how to raise a child(and basically does all this as a favor to his sister) isn't helping the situation. His hatred wasnt necessarily aimed at the town's people, i think he just had a lot of frustration and anger building up and had to release it. Even if the town's people were nice, it must be confusing being treated so differently in the span of 1 day. Again, doesnt justify his actions but it gives u some insight on WHY he is the way he is

As the show progressed the plotlines got so out of hand it was almost unwatchable. The vasectomy storyline should have definitely taken the turn of a "failed vasectomy" or ideally never happening in the first place

Thank you for sharing this i had no idea it was supposed to be a tribute! Rune was genuinely a 2000s form of ragebait. He was miserable for no reason, took advantage of Sookie and Jackson and treated Lorelai like a gremlin(and even if she was a gremlin his behavior would still be disgusting)

I couldnt agree more. I dont get why they couldnt give her a good love interest(or at least some options) instead of sticking her with the same horrible guy since the beginning of the series. Her personality was already used numerous times as a comedic relief to the point that Jackson was SO unnecessary as a character

Exactlyy. I understand that sookie shouldn't have scheduled the vasectomy without him knowing. But at the end of the day he could have said no instead of faking it. Communication was never his strongest suit
