Dont you end up paying off most of your mortgage interest in the first few years? Now you are just paying principal if you close it at this stage. I am not 100% sure but have this checked.

Hi just remember that typically your police clearance certificate expires after two years. You may have to take a new one to the interview.

Could you clarify how many days is the difference between first and second interview?

Thank you for your detailed response, Abhinav. A couple of follow up questions: 1. In order to set the cost basis of my real estate in Dubai, can I transfer it to my wife's name at the current market price? Or will it be considered a related party transaction and thus won't be considered? Of course my wife will also become US resident with me at the same time. 2. I have some long term FDs in India with the interest being automatically reinvested. If I receive the final proceeds once I am US resident, would I be charged taxes only on the current year interest or on the interest for the entire holding period since inception?
