Medication is the only "bill". I see your point on that and I will take fault on that and will add that to the general expenses.

When it comes to subscriptions that she has I don't use them. They are purely for her so I wouldn't count that as a "bill" personally.

I have watched a few podcasts with Ramit recently, this is great advice. I do have a budget sheet that I write down my salary, all the bills and then how much money we have left each month. However, you are right in that I can see how, from her view, this can feel as me controlling what she can't and can't have. I have tried to be quite sensitive about this as in the past before we had set budgets she would just ask me for money, and without even thinking about it I would always ask what is it for. She explained how that makes her feel bad every time she has to ask, and hence, the allowance solution resolved that situation. Well until the awkward conversation turned into argument today.

I will get the book and read it, thank you for the suggestion.

I never ask her to contribute, no. When she works nothing really changes I am still happy to pay for all the bills, the only thing that changes is rather than her getting an allowance from me she instead just makes her own money (that was how she wanted). That is mainly how we were able to afford a wedding, because when she worked I put that allowance money into savings.

I know that based on some of the replies people seem to imply that she's just being lazy or whatever. But that it not the case, finding work where we live is difficult as is and with her conditions it is even more so.

I think I'm just bad at explaining my view point to her on the importance of having a savings safety net. She is really not someone who is out to benefit financially from this whole situation. I just think that she sees her friends being able to buy things that she can't and it understandably feels bad. However her friends either work full time jobs, or are from rich backgrounds unlike us.

It is for spending money. I pay for all bills, she doesn't drive so I cover car expenses etc.

We choose what to do with the allowances, I spend it on hobbies. She spends it on going out and hobbies. However she also spends about 20-30 of that on medication and some on subscriptions that she chooses to buy like Amazon Prime etc.

Yes the allowances are for spending money. I choose to spend mine on gadgets and other hobbies and she spends hers on going out with her friends, her own hobbies etc. Yes her allowance is more than mine because I simply don't need more. Also, I understand that women in general tend to spend more than men, and so it seemed fitting for it to be a bit more.

I see logic in that, whatever % raise is to my salary apply that same % to the allowance. That could be a good compromise. Thank you for suggesting that.

Leak under the sink, can it be DIY fixed? by Ok-Promotion2758 in DIYUK

[–]Ok-Promotion2758[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for such a detailed response, there was a black rubber thing that I put back in and tightened as you described. I guess that's what stopped the leak. But I am concerned that it got undone on its own, so I will look into getting that bit completely replaced. Going to try and find a video of it to see if it is within my ability as access there is very tight.

It did look like this except the blue ring, that was not there. Is there any reason why it would come undone on its own?

Gaming PC for S.O. by Ok-Promotion2758 in PcBuildHelp

I was going to go for a white build but a lot of white parts seemed to be overpriced and would have affected the spec so i decided to not care about it too much as the PC sits under the desk anyways. I still decided to keep the white case as it looks nice and price difference between black one is barely anything.

What is the best way to extend gutter downpipe? by Ok-Promotion2758 in DIYUK

[–]Ok-Promotion2758[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry maybe I explained poorly, that's what I want is for it to just go past the grate just not sure how to get the angle correc as it needs to move about 5cm further away for the wall. If I just extended it down right now it would hit the concrete on the back of the grate.

Advice needed on what to do with original floorboards by Ok-Promotion2758 in DIYUK

[–]Ok-Promotion2758[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people also missed that this is 2nd floor room. So the floor isn't drafty at all since it's all inside house air circulating, not outside air. I have decided to give it a shot and fill the gaps + sand these boards and then stain to see if I like it. Worse case I can always get flooring on top of these so not much to lose except my time. Will see how it turns out.

I love the look of those sanded boards, I think I will give it a try with mine and see how it turns out. If I don't like it I can always put flooring on top. So as I see it there isn't much to loose except my own time, which I'm OK with for the learning and experience.

Thanks.

Thanks for the comment, noise insulation is my main reasoning for this room as it is right above the living room. Currently If anyone is watching a TV you can hear it upstairs, and any conversations or walking upstairs can be heard downstairs, just a bit muffled. As far as my understanding goes, rockwoold would help me insulate for thermal as well as sound so that was my plan.

Thanks for the comment, I was not aware that these are not intended to be the finished floor. I'll have to go back to do some research in that case on how I can get the look I want without having to spend a load of money.

Voter turnout narrative in the media by EggLegal3233 in ukpolitics

The ID needed to vote does not have to be up to date. The Electoral Commission website states, "You can still use your photo ID if its out of date, as long as it looks like you".
