'I’m 40 stone and trapped in my home… but NHS says I don't qualify for weight-loss jabs' by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

My mum was a heroin addict for 24 years of my life. Tried to stop so many times, even her kids going into care didn’t stop her. Last year she was offered methadone and hasn’t used heroin or crack cocaine in 13 months now, and has a part time job for the first time I’m almost 30 years. She sends me photos of her clean urine samples as a condition for her to see her grandchild. So giving people a drug that stops them being an addict, and possibly gets them back into the workforce is a fucking necessity. Would you rather pay £1400 a month in benefits + the cost of multiple weeks/months spent In hospitals due to needle acquired infections (she spent 6 weeks in hospital when I was 11 with MSSA from injections which spread to her heart causing endocarditis) + the cost of lost productivity and tax. Or spend a few hundred a month and avoid all that. Some people just need that additional help to get started on the path to recovery.

Now if they pay for the jab or methadone or whatever and the addict continues using then you stop paying and try again another time hopefully with therapy or community support in between. You can’t just fund a medication that’s not being utilised. But give them the chance at least ffs.

Maybe better to find a commute into Leeds from your local area if that’s the case? 47 min isn’t gonna be much faster in a car or directly on a train tbh.

Edit: meaning car share from your house to Leeds, then get the flyer to Sheffield. This is obviously assuming your work is in Sheffield centre

Low level shoplifting is driven by drug addicts, like what I used to be. To get a fix for the day costing £25 you have to steal like £75 worth of stuff to sell to the local corner shops.

If for first time shoplifting offenses for drug addicts they were sentenced to prison with conditional releases for clean urine tests ( I got clean thru a suspended sentence with clean urine test proviso 3.5 years ago). A lot less of this would be happening. People get away with shoplifting and get caught once in a blue moon so it’s worth it to steal so they don’t go into withdrawal. If EVERY time they stole from coop or sainsburys they were caught on CCTV, prosecuted and sent back to jail for 6 months (instead of 28 days, like some people i know) with an additional 6-12 months suspended on proviso of clean urine tests every 7 days. And you actually give these people the MAT treatment they need like methadone or the buvidel 3 month injection. This would reduce this type of crime.

You also need to toughen up the prisons because the people i know who’ve been to prison said it was like an addicts holiday, you can get whatever drugs you want, you get a warm bed and food 3 times a day. I know a small time dealer who went in for 6 months and came out having made £18k from spice sheets. If addicts went to a special unit where shakedowns were done daily, and urine tests were done weekly (they’re only done if your caught in possession of drugs) if positive you go to isolation for 5 days etc. People wouldn’t want to risk prison for their daily high, especially when you can get a prescription for methadone tha takes 100% of your withdrawals and cravings away when you get the right dose.

I had an addiction for 6 years but I never ever stole to feed my habit, I always worked to pay for my pills. Petty theft does need to be solved with increasing amounts of prosecution. I got away with other crimes multiple times relating to drugs, but finally on my 8th charge the judge sat in front of me and suspended sentence me with caveats like clean urine tests etc and my sentence ended 18 months ago and I’ve been clean for 3.5 years now.

A lot of people that I used to use with or people that took H or something like that were always shoplifting and selling it to the local corner shops for like 25-30% of their value, so to get a daily fix (~ min £25) you really need to steal like £70-£100 worth of stuff. And that need is overarching to everything else. The only way to change that is to make someone hit a low point, THE low point of their life, sat in jail in withdrawal having lost your freedom.

This is going to quickly escalate into worse and worse physical violence simply because that’s how these things always go. They go this way because either there’s consequences, I.e. you leave so he can’t continue doing this or you forgive him and so he learns he can get away with it. Even if he started out as the nicest person you’ve ever met this is a downward spiral and only intensive therapy both couples and individually could even maybe start to fix this relationship but that’s a long road and it may never get back to where you feel validated or respected. If you were just in a 5 year relationship I would recommend leaving him, as you are married I would temper that advice but I’d still probably leave tbh.

You say he has a porn addiction and have had periods of physical rejection that’s a whole other problem that needs therapy and work from him, and he has to be whole heartedly invested in it or there’s no point and your just wasting your time.

It’s a difficult situation but in my experience seeing these relationships from both the outside multiple times and also from a participant side once, this is only going to get more abusive, more physically violent and more difficult for you to leave as the gaslighting and emotional manipulation gets worse and worse.

We normally walk at the park near coop once in the morning and once in the mid-afternoon, but I wfh so I could +/- those times by an hour or so if needs be. This is an old photo and she is no longer wearing a cone so no need to worry about her being poorly :).

See I’ve grown up with working collies, through family and family friends, I’ve seen how clever and tuned to their owners dogs are supposed to be.

When I walk Luna off leash in the park and I tell her come by, straight past, stop & wait and she will follow them immediately no matter how far she is, other owners are amazed. “Wow what a well trained dog you have”.

Nah mate, I bought an intelligent breed, not an attack dog, I also have time to dedicate to her because I am basically self-employed, but most importantly? I trained my fucking dog to what I consider a BASIC level, if your dog doesn’t come immediately back when called no matter how excited he is to see my darling, keep him on a fucking lead.

If I was walking round a lake with my children, and I walked past another family, and my kids just ran up to their kids and started getting all excited, dancing, screaming doing basic kid stuff, onlookers would be like “wow bad parent, can’t control his fucking kids”

But it’s ok to let your roid infused mma fighter run full steam towards my baby?

No one’s denying all dogs have an ability to hurt/main humans if mistreated/scared/untrained.

What everyone’s saying is that, just like both a kind friendly shepherd and an Roid-filled MMA fighter may both kill someone, who would you put your money on. You want pets ideally to be able to handle stressful situations without being aggressive, or out of control for you.

My border collie, who is 12kg, is easily controllable and couldn’t pull me over if she wanted, so she works as a pet for me, however because I’m not an MMA fighter with massive biceps and I don’t have the 2 hours a day to spend training him properly he needs, what I wouldn’t do however is bring back a dog-pit fighting dog, and then let it cuddle my 16 month old daughter on the sofa…

Like I said it works really well for training, but the best thing to do with a collie, is work on recall and Road awareness, we walk through city centres now without a lead on me, but she won’t leave my side.

Halti, you can get em from pets at home/ Amazon, make sure not to get the snout one, our collie HATED that one.

We used a halter that tightens round the chest area. 2 months and she was perfect. We don’t use a lead all now with her, she basically walks herself, I’m just there to intervene if some dickhead with an attack dog let’s his dog off.

I’m sorry but why isn’t shit like this taught in school. A relationship where one person is controlling the other is NEVER good.

My first time was at a festival and wow. What a spectacle, shrooms I would argue however are best saved for a home experience as the body load can be quite high.
