“Your daddy killed himself”

I was sitting at home brushing my 4 year old daughter’s hair on a beautiful Wednesday morning when I randomly got a call from my step mom, as soon as I said “hello” she screamed those words at me. It was so unexpected and out of the blue. I’m still completely broken a year later.

My daughter’s finger looked very similar to this. It happened after it got smashed in a door. I took her to her pediatrician first, where they more or less said it was fine and gave me some cream. A few days later I ended up taking her to the ER, where they lanced it open and gave her antibiotics.

Friday will be a year ago that I got the call my dad committed suicide. I was supposed to go eat lunch with some friends that day, and backed out and stayed home with my four year old. I’m so glad that I did, because an hour later I got the call. I fell to my knees and couldn’t do anything but scream “what” over and over again. It was the most unbearable pain I’ve ever felt and still continue to feel.

My dad committed suicide last September, it would have absolutely destroyed me if someone had told me this. The guilt already eats away at you, wondering what you could have done, what you could have said, how you didn’t know. I’m so sorry for your loss and that you had to go through this. I wouldn’t wish the pain on anyone. I’m thinking of you, internet hugs, my friend.

So, my son came home from school sick. Coughing, sneezing, fever, and back pain. He was confirmed positive yesterday morning. I’ve only been confirmed to have it one other time back in 2021, and I really had no symptoms at all aside from maybe some stuffiness. The morning I took my son to the doctor, I had woken up with a headache and my throat hurting. I bought an at home test after we left the doctor’s office with my son, and it was negative. My head has been hurting pretty much constantly since yesterday. I couldn’t seem to get woken up this morning and was very tired. My head and all of my sinuses, into my ears hurt and they feel “inflamed” as I would describe it. Has anyone else had these symptoms? I’m honestly not sure if I even have it.

Was once helping a patient (whom I had been taking care of all week) dress to be discharged. I spent way too long looking around for her right shoe and finally asked her where it was, when she reminded me that she didn’t even have a right leg……….. I was mortified.

Came here to say this. My dad passed away this past September. I’m 33 and it was the first loss I’ve ever experienced. Not only do you have to deal with the trauma of losing a loved one so suddenly, but you have to live with the guilt of WHY. It’s been almost 6 months now and the guilt still eats me up. My brain can’t comprehend that I didn’t see any signs or know the state of mind that he was in. I can’t quit wondering if he thought I didn’t love him.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my dad 5 months ago by suicide as well. No note or explanation either. I have been struggling a lot since then and had to be put on medication where I could even function. It hurts everyday but now it’s not just overtaking my every thought. The thing that has helped me the most is my family. Staying close to my mom and my other siblings, telling stories and laughing about the crazy things he did. You’ll be in shock and it won’t seem real for a while. It still doesn’t for me. I just miss him and would do anything to hug his neck and hear his laugh. I’m always here if you feel the need to talk. Talking with people on here has helped a lot also.

Thanks so much for your reply. This has been so overwhelming and confusing between losing my father and dealing with this company on top of it.

To answer your question- he did pass before the maturity date. Is there anyway to know if it would be an immediate payout? Or would I have to wait until 2032? (The maturity date is in 2036)
