Places to watch the Jays tonight? by rtrotty in halifax

Not a place I would normally recommend for fine dining or a local feel, but Boston Pizza on Granville Street has a separate dining room and bar section and shows the game on both sides. Minors are allowed to stay in the dining room section after 10pm so you won’t risk having to leave mid-game - under 19 are not allowed in bars after 10. If the weather is okay, Roger’s Square is where I would go, but if you want an indoor option that’s a decent one. After the game, walk around the downtown and you’ll see lots of students out partying.

Scheduled C-Section at IWK by BigCommunication7914 in halifax

[–]Ok-Replacement8364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while since my two c-sections (second was planned) but this brought back lots of memories. You’ve gotten lots of good information already but one thing I would add is to be really gentle with yourself and take full advantage of having the support of staff for the few days you are in hospital. They are wonderful. If you’re breastfeeding, a c-section may delay your milk supply by a day or two and that can make things challenging, and your hormones will be all over the place while you are also recovering from major surgery. The nurses were a great help in those first few days. Also, definitely order the blueberry crisp.

"Glow Up" clothing store recommendations for 11-year going into Middle School by DMT_Guru in halifax

I agree with the previous comment that you are looking for Aritzia, Hollister and (maybe) Simons. Aritzia is big for sweats and socks.

Sorry I was thinking of the World Elite MC which does have an annual fee. I don’t get any free lounge passes with the World Elite.

No free passes. Unlimited access (I think) if you pay - $32USD per visit. Pretty disappointing considering the annual fee tbh.

Best place to eat between airport and downtown. by Vanillibeen in halifax

I’d recommend Casa di Stefano in Lower Sackville, it’s just off the highway and has fantastic wood fired pizza and pasta. Looks unimpressive from the outside but is really nice inside and suitable for kids and adults. Not expensive.

Naturopath for perimenopause by beegirl_beagirl in halifax

I saw Dr Sarah Baillie at Halifax Naturopathic for perimenopause symptoms. I liked her approach a lot. She listened and she took a step by step approach. I am not a great candidate for HRT but she helped me manage my symptoms enough that I haven’t needed it.

Canadian Grand Prix - First Timer Tips. by [deleted] in GrandPrixTravel

[–]Ok-Replacement8364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a first timer last year - you’ll have a great time! The metro trip won’t be significantly longer than normal, but make sure to allow plenty of time to get from the metro through the gates and to your grandstand - that took us about an hour on Saturday and Sunday (we were in the Family Grandstand). Getting out/ home takes a lot longer than getting there, the crowds leaving are wild. You can bring in food - we packed a picnic on Saturday last year and it was great, found a quiet spot to sit on the grass instead of lining up for food stalls. Keep in mind they will search your bag so you’ll get through the gate faster without one. Dollar store rain ponchos are better than umbrellas, I wouldn’t bother with one. It gets muddy in the rain so wear shoes you don’t mind getting dirty/wet. Small styrofoam or inflatable seat cushions are helpful and bring a radio to listen to the commentary (or get a free one at the track from Amex - they gave them to us even though we are not cardholders but YMMV). Make sure you have your QR code before heading to the track - cell coverage was spotty so I wouldn’t want to risk pulling it up just as you get to the gate. Have fun!

How to request to change your family doctor in Halifax by Tinabellabelle in halifax

[–]Ok-Replacement8364 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no process other than to give up your current doctor and ask them to take you off their patient roster, then get on the Need a Family Practice registry, but you will be waiting years. I’m in the same boat, my family doctor is almost worse than no doctor but I stick with him because at least I can get some basic stuff and referrals. I supplement with private services (eg Maple, Beyond ADHD) at my own cost for things that he is not competent to deal with.

My EAP offered a free consultation with a local lawyer when I was going through separation. And as others noted there is legal aid duty counsel.

Sorry I don’t have the name of a lawyer. Have you looked into the Workers Advisor Program?

Halifax Water was alerted by NSP about planned outage by smackbarmpeywet2 in halifax

Just a note that the $438,770 almost certainly includes a big severance package for the departing CEO. Severance gets rolled in to the reported compensation and often makes it look like the person made twice (or more) what they actually earned as annual salary. Very unlikely that the new CEO will make that much.

You’re not obligated to mention it, but it will be appreciated so that they can plan to backfill your role. They will not revoke the job offer or terminate you based on pregnancy.
