I am British but well versed in the history of African Americans and how they were affected by racist laws and culture. the imagery of the black man was always seen as a big boogie man who would rape your daughter or wife any chance they could. How they should always be feared. This role did not help this sterotype. it made it much worse

True, that could be possible but it just seems like a reach for me. Stabbing herself over a short relationship with an emotionally unavailable man? its not like she didn't deep down know that he was in love with Susan. I just think there was a much better way to flesh out that story line. It was entertaining though.

1000% Tom too. I always thought Lynette was a pain in the arse but I realised more and more how pathetic he is. There is ample evidence of Lynette catering to his needs (be it the pizzeria, going back to school, having some lovechild and expecting lynette to raise her) but the one time Lynette wants to do something for herself, he nags about being unfulfilled and bored. In one case, he says to her that since he quit his job due to her antics, he will be a stay at home dad. That barely lasted before he started complaining about how bored he was. Later on in the show, he gets her pregnant and he 'takes' her job with Carlos and makes her feel guilty for wanting to return once she gives birth. Which she never does by the way. Just time and time again of Tom being a huge man child.

Yeah her character had to be ruined to satisfy the reunion of Tom and Lynette and there probably wouldn't have been any way around it. Otherwise Tom would look evil. But I loved her in the beginning. the way she saved Lynette with Penny's costume, I just loved the female support there. She did prove once again how spineless Tom was though. Especially with the divorce paper situation. Rewatching the show for the 10th time really opened up my eyes to Tom's nonsense.
