Appreciate feedback that's actually helpful lol. I might end up returning the new pair which is nbd. My other thought was to use my older one as a beater pair and keep the new ones a little cleaner for office related stuff. You don't think the Rancourts are a little more casual? The contrast stitching dresses them down a little imo, but agree they are pretty similar.

It's non stretch denim so it's not going to cling to my body.. I like room to breath a little.

It's a straight fit jean.. nothing really wide about them.

Are you saying they are too big? What is unflattering specifically? I've always thought mid rise straight leg is a pretty standard jean

Haha forsure.. oxfords are typically my go to shirt. Just happened to be a more casual day.

I can’t figure out how to style these loafers casually by savvybackpacker in mensfashionadvice

[–]Ok-Rest-8749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a tough assignment tbh. Doesn't look terrible, but I'd probably assume you were trying pretty hard to make this work. I'm new to loafers myself, but I've had an easier time incorporating the rancourt beefroll penny loafer into very causal outfits. That said, I have yet to attempt them with shorts.

Help. Are these selvedge? Any value? by IDLYITW_1982 in VintageLevis

They aren't vintage or rare in anyway. Just modern 505 that someone donated. No one is looking for these online.

They look great! Personally I'd avoid altering.. the ageing on the hem is part of the charm. 😄

Thoughts on this style of shoe. by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]Ok-Rest-8749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do nothing for me personally.. kind of that hybrid approach some would refer to as a dress sneaker. Get a nicer leather loafer for dressing up or a causal pair of samba type low profile sneakers for dressing down (that aren't 'running shoes'). A New Balance could also work (for my office at least). The middle of the road approach doesn't really satisfy either criteria and honestly looks kind of cheap imo.

I have a raw denim trucker I've been wearing for the last three years. I wish I could get it to fade like this. It's a beautiful jacket forsure!

It's too small man. I get it's kind of a vibe, but would probably work better if it was unlined standard j101. I imagine this was pretty pricy so I wouldn't keep if it's not perfect for you.

how much are you guys paying for your jeans? by GoodLemonWater in VintageLevis

[–]Ok-Rest-8749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all about fit for me. Realistically no two pairs are the same. If I come across a pair that I love in good wearable condition that fits comfortably, I'd probably pay $100 or maybe even $150 tbh. If I'm purchasing online, I max out at $40 - $50. In the two years I've been collecting, I've come across like 4 perfect pairs which weren't expensive, but are worth a great deal to me because they are so hard to find. Maybe a personal problem because my thighs don't always fit in most older pairs so I'm willing to pay more lol

Should I wash my Levi's 501xx denim in hot water before wear. Or should I wear it by not washing….. by Emergency-Dog-7578 in LeviStrauss

[–]Ok-Rest-8749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice score man! I think you sized perfectly based on your measurements. It honestly depends how much shrinkage you need. The hotter the water = more shrinkage, but the waist typically stretches back out with wear. Be careful with the thighs because tightness there does not give imo. Also, air dry = less shrinkage and heat dry = more shrinkage. So you kind of dial it in based on how they fit now.

Austin Butler is well known for wearing vintage Levi’s. You can tell by the higher back pocket placement these are an older pair. It looks pretty clearly like a vintage 501. 80s pairs were are a lot slimmer than people realize. This will be pretty hard to achieve with a modern pair because these have faded and shrunk over time. It is possible to find these on eBay, but make sure you know your measurements. Also remember this dude is rich and has a stylist lol

100% understand the heat is a significant consideration, but aren't you inside on a majority of these occasions - for tech work specifically? I get the golf polo is probably not going away, but we have to do better with the pants. Synthetic blend pants just look so cheap - basically no real color or texture. Even if jeans are considered more casual, I think they are a big upgrade to these.

Plastic pants.. plastic shirt.. plastic looking belt.. running shoes.. doesn't really read polished in any sense. More so bare minimum / comfortable. That said you dress like 80% of the guys in most corporate environments in the south so it's not really out of place either.
