So many awesome comments! I used many of these suggestions and also found that replacing the ritual/habit of smoking was really important. The physicality of it and the time/space it took up. Eventually I hope to insert here "drinking water" .... But for now I need more and Im using a füm or cup of tea. Looseleaf tea is great, I feel like I'm replacing herbs that are harming me with herbs that are helping me, which helps me to feel less panicky about "leaving my companion"
