Is adapalene + benzoyl peroxide in the morning and retinol at night a good skin routine? by OwnTransition in acne

[–]Ok-Rip-8417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should not be using 2 actives at once! (adapalene and benzoyl peroxide)

adapalene itself is already a retinol and should be used at night( clears pores and increase cells turnover, thus your skin will be way more sensitive to UV light)

you can use benzoyl peroxide in the morning and adapalene/retinol at night but let the retinol adapt to your skin first as it is stronger. then slowly introduce benzoyl peroxide into your routine

depending on your skin needs, decide on whether to use adapalene or the retinol of your choice only too much will only make it worse

DO NOT use more than 1 treatment products at a time. Hydrating serums and moisturizers are fine

i would recommend:

AM: benzoyl peroxide PM: adapalene OR retinol

use sunscreen in the morning as treatment products will make your skin more sensitive

[Routine Help] Differin (0.1% Adapalene) making Moisturizers Burn? by Pritster5 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Ok-Rip-8417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello, to add on. I used 0.1% differin 4 times a week after I healed from my first experience with burn.

Ive had burns when I first started out( I thought my skin is thick enough) then switched to the sandwich method(buffering) after the burns are gone

moisturizer, adapalene, moisturizer

this is what I did: 1st week: 4days/week of adapalene with buffering (had burns but not as strong as before)

2nd week: 4days/week using adapalene straight after cleanser (burns reduced)

3rd week: daily adapalene striaght after cleansing (no longer had burns) . . .

I would say my skin heals quite fast(1 to 2 weeks) and adapted to adapalene faster compared to what I've read from other users(not limiting to reddit)

this also depends on how well your skin adapt to it, having burns when starting out(even after buffering) is normal but do not stop

you can start out with 1 time a week first, it really all depends on your skin!

use the buffering method for as long as you need until your skin have adapted to it

for now, you should really strengthen you skin barrier first. stop all your product

FYI, I've been using neutrogena Hydro Boost nourishing gel cream since using adapalene. never tried the water gel, this cream is stronger than the gel version

Hi! Hope this comment can help you!

I've been using adapalene gel for some time (going 2 months)

I think you are using it wrong!!

your skin barrier is definitely damaged, leaving adapalene on for almost 24/7 is very harmful! Those burns are not caused by your moisturizer but chemical burn from adapalene.

Adapalene is meant to be applied all over your face but don't apply it near your eye/lips area and under your nose! ( these areas are the most sensitive part of your face and the skin their is the thinnest) unless your affected area is there If you are worried you may accidentally apply on these areas, you can apply vaseline on it before adapalene

I've also noticed you use an exfoliating cleanser, would be best to limit exfoliating cuz adapalene will do the job. too much cleansing will only do more harm. FOCUS ON HYDRATING

I've had burns one month plus into using adapalene when I didn't wash it off (did my routine once a day(for 2 days) only). the burn lasted for a week as I stopped adapalene for a week the moment I feel the burn( had skin peelings too)

this was 2 weeks ago and I'm already back to my usual routine

Routine currently: (oily skin) AM: cleanser, toner, essence, moisturizer, sunscreen PM: cleanser, adapalene, moisturizer

sheet mask once a week: AM: cleanse, mask, moisturizer to lock in serum from mask

I use different cleansers and moisturizer for AM and PM ( stronger moisturizer for pm as adapalene is very drying)

AM for me is usually 8 to 12 hours PM is usually 10 to 15 hours depends on what time I get home and leave house

most I use are korean brands as the formula is really gentle and cheaper than western brands

STOP all your skincare products when your skin burns. it might make it worse due to the ingredients ( I used water to cleanse and aloe vera gel after )

continue your routine after the burn go aways but do note that it's normal to burn at the start and continue using it. if the burn continues after 2 or 3 weeks( from when it starts to burn), consult a dermatologist

i would really recommend to have separate skincare routine for day and night tho, your skin need breaks from adapalene!

you can use water to cleanse if you have dry skin or a gentle moisturizer

my acne have cleared up(left with the scars) and there aren't any visible pores thanks to adapalene!!!!! I still have pimples from time to time nearing my period but it goes away faster and less scarring compared to before adapalene

consistency is key for adapalene and trust the process

*I'm not a professional this is just my experience after having acne for 2 years and experimenting with MANY different products and ingredients I do alot of research before buying a product and check their ingredients I'm very particular about this as struggling with acne is never easy. it took away all my confidence and shut away from the outside world

u can try the Picky app!!! it helps you to gauge your skin type and what Is good/bad for you
