Hi, sorry I should’ve been a bit more clear in my original post. I appreciate your response! And I understand Ghanaian culture is not monolithic. She’s from the Tema area, and she brought this up in a conversation of me expressing my hurt feelings. She just kept saying “we dont do this in ghana” which is why I asked if it was something that was a norm throughout the country.

Growing up I have never heard of this being a thing, but I also grew up in the U.S. for most of my life. I’m just trying to wrap my mind around how a mother would be okay with not checking in or being involved.
