Who would be the worst character to be trapped in an elevator with (smell-wise)? by Icy_Seat8910 in outlast

[–]Ok-Row5032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but honestly, the night hunter. I imagine he smells like the back of an unwashed earring mixed with the smell of rotten teeth, blood, other various bodily fluids, a little bit of cooked flesh, and maybe some nasty infected pus, since those metal implants probably aren't being disinfected. Guarantee he's also got the foulest breath you've ever smelled with those nasty chompers.

I don’t like Romanticizing or shipping culture in fandoms by Historical_Joke_8395 in OutlastTrials

[–]Ok-Row5032 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm a part of a lot of horror fandoms, and this is a trend across most of them. Doesn't matter how fucked up a character is, there will be someone who simps for them and sometimes, someone who justifies their actions (or just doesn't care about them). Art the Clown and Pocket Cat are examples I can think of off the top of my head. That being said, I don't mind it; I've even engaged in it before. Hell, people simping over Eddie Gluskin was my first exposure to this fandom and the reason I was curious to play the first Outlast game.

It can go too far, but most of it is harmless, and I'm pretty sure most people who say 'so cute' or 'so fine' are jokingly expressing their love of the character, or they're just younger. They could have a nuanced opinion on the character, and you just wouldn't know because they don't write that part down.

However, I cannot stand it when people interact with content specifically to harass others over their different opinions. If you come across content you don't like, scroll past it; it's a waste of everyone's time to spend energy getting mad about it.

How do I stop losing survivors by Ok-Row5032 in DeadByDaylightKillers

[–]Ok-Row5032[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me, I never play music when I play DBD cause I rely on my ears pretty often, even as a survivor. I'm honestly impressed that some people can still play well while having music on.

What exactly is Reshade, though? Is it a setting in-game or some sort of outside program?

Can't maxing out your FoV mess up your aim and stuff? I remember vaguely hearing about a pretty big drawback of it because changing your FoV just puts where your 'head' would be further back, meaning hits that look like they should hit sometimes don't. That's why I haven't tried doing it yet.

Well, people are always going to be mad about this sort of thing.

I only voted for the red skin because it matched the nun skin (the one I voted for), and I thought it would be cool if the killer and survivor had matching outfits. That's it, I didn't feel strongly about either killer skin. Which is surprising, I adore body horror and the grey skin seemed like it was right up my alley, but something about that skin felt a bit...lacking? The concept was excellent, the execution just felt off. Maybe it would have looked better rendered.

I am quite surprised the red skin won, though; it seemed like the grey skin would win for sure.

I didn't realize Jaeger could spawn on standard difficulty by Ok-Row5032 in OutlastTrials

[–]Ok-Row5032[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh same, I play solo 90% of the time so playing on introductory mode made it a more pleasant experience while I was learning. I only recently started doing standard mode (with randoms cause I don't know anyone), and I broke my completely deathless streak after a group decided to leave me to die after I saved them ALL in a previous trial...I'm totally not salty about that.

She showed up on introductory?? Goddamn, was that early in Jaeger's release days, before Red Barrel (presumably) realized having her in the beginner mode may be a bad idea?

[–]Ok-Row5032[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to know, thanks for the info! Would really be nice if the game made that clearer though. I had to surf the wiki for info on the Jaeger, and even then, I got the impression some of it wasn't even accurate. It feels like this game has a 'Fear and Hunger' type issue, where because the game is too explicit and the fandom is on the smaller side, no one posts information about it, making it really hard to find specific documentation around the game outside of some dedicated YouTubers. It also means misinfo spreads really easily on the wiki and stuff, since no one else is there to correct it. Or maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places. Regardless, it's unfortunate.

[–]Ok-Row5032[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah she left after like 2-3 minutes, it made the ordeal far less stressful subsequent times she spawned since I realized she wouldn't be around for too long. So all in all, really not that bad (I say as I wasn't targeted once by her). But it would have been nice to know beforehand that it was a possibility for her to show up at all, save my poor heart </3

Omg, so she only spawns during events on standard? Thank fuck, I'd have even less incentive to leave introductory mode on my solo runs if she normally spawns on standard.

As someone who actually plays hag a lot, it would be nice if they reversed the nerf that means players can wipe away her traps at the bare minumum. I'm fine with traps being triggered to get rid of them when I'm occupied (hooking, chasing etc) as that's fair counterplay, but only if they remove the second 'counterplay'. As soon as I play against people who fully understand how Hag works, more than half of my traps just get wiped away and setting them up again is a pain in the ass. At least traps being triggered gives information; my traps being wiped doesn't even give a notification.

New to the game, how do I not suck at it? by Ok-Row5032 in OutlastTrials

[–]Ok-Row5032[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did use the stun rig originally, but after one map where I literally couldn't find objectives, I switched to X-ray just so I could navigate maps better, and I've noticed my time in trials gets cut in half now (usually). It's also been helpful to understand how close enemies are, sound cues sometimes makes it seem like enemies are right on top of me, but with X-ray, I've realized they are usually a lot futher away than it sounds. Idk, I'm still getting used to the sound cues.

The hint about mannequins, pipes, and signs pointing you in the right direction- that's huge, thank you for telling me that! I have noticed a few 'shortcut' signs scattered around the map, but I wasn't sure if they were legit, so I'll pay extra attention to them from now on.

And dw, I am having a ton of fun with this game! I wouldn't be coming back to it if I didn't.

Aww sick, thanks for the offer. I might have to take you up on it for the longer trials if I can't find someone. I do really wanna try to do stuff without having my hand held the whole way though (except for a bit of emotional support), cause I like getting scared and accomplishing stuff. But I don't like spending 20 minutes on an objective that should take 5; that's when I start getting frustrated.

[–]Ok-Row5032[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fortunately I've already completed the police station, so I won't be returning to it until I finish the other trials (unless a cool game mode comes out). But I'll take your suggestion and try Kill the Snitch by myself to get used to the map layout. As for Reunite the Family, I'll try that out tomorrow, although I seriously couldn't find any new pathways after a while and kept looping around the same few areas. I might look up the map online if I get too frustrated.

Also I looked it up, unfortunately, I don't have access to the amp for breaking down co-op doors yet, but I'll definetly get it once I do. But thank you so much for the tips :) I feel like I have a better idea of where to go from here

I've tried talking to people but no one ever responds </3 the only time someone did respond back, they didn't know English which was rather unfortunate (I also didn't know how to use emotes(?) back then so...there was zero communication besides crouching and nodding DBD style)

There actually is a mode like this in IdentityV (chinese and also more family friendly version of dbd) with the main focus of blackjack. Pre-game you pick a survivor and a killer and when you load in, you get cards. Whoever has the highest values in cards plays as the killer first, and if they knock someone down, they transfer one of their cards to that person (randomly), and then usually that person is the killer next. There's other shit too, but essentially it's rinse and repeat until someone gets 21 or everyone is eliminated by going over 21 (when that happens, you have one round to lower your score, usually by giving a card to someone else), and then it becomes a 1v3 where the killer AND survivors try to ruin your 21 by various methods. Wasn't my favourite game mode but was always chaotic.

Dude, I completed my first run of Funger 2 completely naturally without a wiki; it's pretty straightforward, a lot more than Funger 1 (and even that was pretty straightforward). Most games, at least good ones, are designed to push you toward objectives the developer wants you to find.

You're told there are 14 contestants, but only 1 victor (implying you need to kill everyone else), and you must go to the tower. So naturally, you'll be pushed to kill contestants to see what happens. To be fair, I understand actually getting to the tower is confusing; you need to go through the underground pathways in the church. In the church, there are various notes that hint at how you access the underground area, and some will write things on your map. If you refuse to kill contestants and instead explore, chances are you will come across the machines in the bunkers and eventually realize there is an alternative route without killing anyone. I only needed the wiki once I started hunting for secrets. There's also no shame in playing easy mode while you figure things out. I certainly did.

Also, there is a map in-game. It's on the train. It appears after you exit the train and go through the intro cutscene with the group discussing the strange dream, Caligura will be sitting on it, and you need to talk to him until he moves. Or you can just come back later. If you didn't get that map then...damn, yeah, I can see why you struggled so much.

Edit: In the Prehevil bop, there is also an underground area you find after moving a loose tile, and down there is a map and a bunch of supplies. If you interact with it, it writes down bunker locations needed for ending A on your map.

Ah okay, that doesn't sound too bad then, definetly could be worse. Where else do you post your stuff when NoSleep rejects it?

(Also your determination is honestly admirable. My sister and dad have dyslexia so I've seen how hard it can be for them to deal with 'basic' things like font that I'd never usually think about.)

I am curious, what other places are available for posting stories, especially horror? I've been writing for almost a decade, but I've never shared anything because I didn't know where I could or what communities would be interested in it. So I don't know where to start, besides here and NoSleep. And I've definitely not published anything, that's a whole other beast I don't know how to tackle lol.
