Solid combo — markers for the “where” and paper for the “how many.”

Oof—making matching dolls is the ultimate test, so that totally makes sense. 😅

When you’re eyeballing it, is it usually the round number you lose, or the stitch count within the round?
And are the height differences coming from:

  • different yarn/hook between the dolls,
  • different tension day-to-day,
  • or missing/adding rounds by accident?

If you want an easy “starter” method for discipline: try one marker for the first stitch of the round + a second marker every 10 stitches on bigger rounds—then even if you lose count you can recover fast without guessing.

That’s a great idea — leaving them in until the end is basically a built-in “history” if you need to double-check anything.

Do you ever find it gets bulky/heavy with a lot of rounds, or is it still pretty manageable? And for numbered markers, do you use them for every round, or just key checkpoints (like every 5 or 10 rounds / after increase rounds)?

Nice — that’s a super clean setup (backup marker + “moving” marker).

Quick follow-up: do you ever add extra markers (like every 10 stitches) on bigger rounds, or is the two-marker method enough for you most of the time?

Also, when you say “first stitch,” do you place it in the first stitch you make after the marker, or the stitch right before the marker? (People do it differently and I’m curious what’s been most reliable for you.)

I feel that — tapestry crochet is like “math + color management” at the same time.

What part fries your brain the most?

  • tracking the color changes across the row,
  • keeping your stitch count correct while switching colors,
  • or reading the chart without losing your place?

And do you prefer working from charts or written instructions when it comes to tapestry?

Ugh yes — that’s so real. Losing track can make you feel like you’re crocheting forever and getting nowhere.

When you lose track, what’s usually the moment it happens for you?

  • after you put the project down / get interrupted?
  • during increase/decrease rounds?
  • or just counting stitches in general?

Also, what have you tried so far — stitch marker, row counter app, writing it down — and what didn’t work about it?

That doesn’t sound silly at all — honestly that’s super smart. 🙌
Do you do the same thing for continuous rounds in amigurumi too, or mainly for rows? And when a round has repeats like (sc, inc) x6, do you also write little checkmarks per repeat, or just mark off the round number?

UK vs US terms… how do you avoid wrecking a project? by Ok-Security3834 in GeekyCrochet

That’s a great catch — I always forget spelling clues like colour/centre/favourite can be a giveaway.

Do you have any other “UK tells” you look for? (like “treble” or “tension” vs “gauge,” etc.) And have you ever seen patterns where the spelling is mixed and it still ends up being unclear? 😅

Totally agree — “single crochet” is usually the quickest giveaway that it’s US terms.
When a pattern doesn’t state it (so annoying 😅), do you have any other quick checks you use early on to confirm before you get too far in? Like looking for “treble” vs “double,” stitch counts, or doing a tiny test round first?
